  • The NBA pre-season is upon us and hope springs eternal for 30 teams. Jackie Robinson Jersey . Cant wait. How time flies. Im starting my 16th year as a Toronto Raptors broadcaster and this is my sixth year with TSN. I feel very fortunate to be involved in the sport I love and to have the opportunity to be part of it in a lot less stressful way than my previous career as a coach. Its fun and you folks with your passion for hoops make it awesome. Thanks for your support and look forward to enjoying lots of great basketball moments together in 2013-14 and beyond. Lets quickly touch on a few NBA topics. 1. Glen Grunwald (Knicks): Totally bizarre that he was removed as GM. He did a better than good job there in his roles with the organization. Very strange but in the world of owner James Dolan, nothing shocks me. Feel for Grunwald; good basketball man who is very low key. Dont be fooled by his quiet demeanor, hes a sharp guy and very competitive. I know that life is unfair but this is a time where you just shake your head and feel awful for a guy. Steve Mills is the new president & GM; a stunning return to MSG for him. One of those moments where you say to yourself, You cant make this nonsense up! 2. Derriok Rose (Bulls): Thrilled that hes healthy and back practicing with his team. If there is one guy (if 100 per cent healthy) that can dramatically change the makeup of the Eastern Conference, its this guy. Impact guy with explosive ability. The Miami Heat are obviously the team to beat with the Pacers, Nets and Knicks all in the hunt. Rose will put the Bulls right back in the elite discussion again if it all works out and Im cool with that. Its great for the sport. 3. Erik Spoelstra (Heat): Outstanding move by owner Micky Arison and president Pat Riley to get him locked up on a long-term deal. He fits the organizational approach/mindset of the Heat exactly and is an outstanding young coach. Stability is crucial to any good franchise and the coaching leadership is paramount. Hes proven himself to me time and time again as a guy who is one of the elite rising coaches in the game today. 4. Channing Frye (Suns): Reports out of Phoenix are that hes close to coming back after missing last season with heart ailment. Good for him. Have always liked his ability as a stretch perimeter guy and is a team player who gives it his all. Any time you can have a floor spacer like Frye on the court it helps dramatically with the flow/spacing and efficiency of your offense. Hopefully, it works out for him. 5. Toronto 2016 NBA All-Star Game and Drake: Lots of news out of Toronto with the announcement of the 2016 NBA All Star game and Drakes involvement with the Raptors. Ive been saying for years that getting the All-Star Weekend is a good thing for Toronto and will be a nice opportunity for the organization and city to showcase itself as a place that has amazing potential (it does!) as a viable NBA destination as well as (if run properly) a place where a franchise can be a significant player (it can be!) in the NBA landscape. The involvement of Drake doesnt hurt one bit. Were in the recruitment and retention business. If he can even help a little bit with the recruitment of a player and/or helping a current player who is on the fence about life as an NBA Player in Toronto stick with his commitment, then why not try it. Worth a shot. In my 16 Years doing this in Toronto, Ive seen more than my fair share of the attempts to win press conferences with the glitz and glitter and then Day 2 and beyond, it fizzles. Never confuse activity for achievement. Sooner or later, as the Raptors start Year 19 in the NBA, youve got to see results and those results on a consistent basis. If this helps that, wonderful. Let it rip. All for it. At the end of the day, all fans want is the durable, solid level of success/results of teams like the San Antonio Spurs, New England Patriots, St. Louis Cardinals and the New Jersey Devils. Substance ultimately overrules style. In the words of Al Davis, Just Win Baby! Cody Bellinger Jersey . - After a back-and-forth battle throughout the season, Alex Guenette has earned the 2013 rookie of the year award for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 by just one point over Ryley Seibert. Julio Urias Jersey . - After spending the morning in the hospital, Logan Couture gave the San Jose Sharks the spark they needed. http://www.ladodgersprostore.us/Adrian-Gonzalez-dodgers-jersey/ . Redden played a total of 1,023 regular-season games with Ottawa, the New York Rangers, St. Louis and Boston. He finished with 457 points (109 goals, 348 assists) and a plus-160 rating over his career.MELBOURNE, Australia - Nick Kyrgios knows how to entertain a crowd. He hits shots between his legs and around the net posts. He smashes rackets. He argues with the chair umpire and interacts with fans in the stands. He smashes more rackets. And when he can control his explosive game and emotions, the crowd-pleasing Kyrgios has the talent to beat anyone on the biggest stages. At a raucous Hisense Arena at the Australian Open on Sunday, the 19-year-old Australian did just that: he came back from two sets down and saved a match point before beating Italian Andreas Seppi 5-7, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5), 8-6 in a 3 1/2-hour match to reach the quarterfinals. This is actually the most nervous Ive ever been, he said. I am definitely feeling the pressure (playing at home), but at the same time I had so much fun out there. It was a reprise of his breakout performance at Wimbledon last year where he saved nine match points in a come-from-behind win over Richard Gasquet and then stunned the then-No. 1 Rafael Nadal to reach the quarters. With both runs, Kyrgios is in elite company — the last man to reach the quarters at multiple majors as a teenager was Roger Federer in 2001.Kyrgios credited the deafening, standing-room-only crowd with helping him pull through the match against Seppi, but credited himself, too, for keeping his volatile emotions in check when it mattered. It didnt start out this way. In the first set, he argued with the chair umpire repeatedly over a call and after dropping set point, smashed his racket with such force that it bent in half.Though he kept up a stream of explettives and continually talked to himself — as well as the crowd — he also calmed himself down at critical moments, particularly in the fifth set when he let a 4-1 lead slip and had to fight off a break point at 4-all. Los Angeles Dodgers Jerseys. I think Im just managing my emotions a bit better out there, he said. When I needed to get into the crowd, I did that. ... Im just learning every time I step out on the court when to show emotion, when not to.Kyrgios has been criticized for being too emotional in the past, including this week in the Australian media by former greats Fred Stolle and Pat Rafter. If you want to, call them antics or frustrations or temper, Stolle said, but its something that hes got to get rid of.But others have leapt to his defence — he has a fan club on Twitter that uses the hashtag #NKRising — and Kyrgios himself said playing to the crowd helps him overcome nerves and boosts his energy levels when he needs it.His showmanship certainly livened up the crowd after he dropped the first two sets against Seppi. At one point in the fourth set, he hit a shot between his legs as he approached the net and, though he lost the point, the crowd roared. He had them laughing, too, when he shouted to a couple who got up to leave in the fifth set, Hey, where are you going? If Kyrgios plays his next match against Andy Murray in front of 15,000 screaming fans at Rod Laver Arena — the biggest stadium at Melbourne Park — his opponent should expect quite the show.Hes dangerous. Hes unpredictable. Hes entertaining, Murray said. Im going to have to play a good match. • Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork. Alex Galchenyuk Team Canada Jersey .com) - James Harden tallied 37 points with eight rebounds and five assists to lead the Houston Rockets in a 99-87 rout of the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night at Staples Center. Josh Smith and Jason Terry each came off the bench to score 11 points, while Corey Brewer had 10 in a reserve role for the Rockets. Houston center Dwight Howard did not play against his former team due to a right ankle sprain. Carlos Boozer had 18 points with 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who have dropped eight straight games. Los Angeles had not lost eight straight since March 14-27, 2005. The Lakers will most likely be without the services of guard Kobe Bryant for the long term, as he recently suffered a torn right rotator cuff. He will be re-examined Monday before the team decides whether the guard needs potentially season-ending surgery. With Bryants absence, the Lakers will look to see more production out of Nick Young, but that wasnt the case on Sunday. I felt with his body language that I didnt want to play him, Lakers coach Byron Scott said of Young, who went 0-for-2 from the field in just under 8 1/2 minutes off the bench. Harden netted seven points over the first five minutes and Houston went up 14-6 on Patrick Beverleys 3-pointer. Josh Smith hit a 3 late in the quarter to put the Rockets up 15 and they led 30-15 after 12 minutes. Harden notched 13 points in the opening frame. It helps our defensive mentality, Harden said when asked about the teams fast start. Brewers dunk gave Houston its largest lead of the first half, 42-23, with under eight minutes to play. Los Angeles chipped away at the deficit and trailed 52-36 at the break. The Rockets sustained a generous lead throughout the third and led 80-60 entering the fourth. They led by as many as 25 in the final quarter, but the Lakers had one last gasp midway through the frame. Jeremy Lin made two free throws to close a 10-0 run that brought Los Angeles within 89-78 with 5 1/2 minutes to play. Brewer countered at the other end with a 3-pointer to stem the momentum and Houston built another comfortable advantage to close out the game. Game Notes LA fell to 2-14 at home against the Western Conference ... Lin finished with 14 points in the loss ... The Lakers made 1-of-13 shots from beyond the arc ... The Rockets scored 21 points off 21 turnovers. Maurice Richard World Cup Jersey . Check out todays trade-related reports and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow TSN.ca through Deadline Day for all the updates. Mystery Men The Ottawa Senators are trying to get down to business, theyre just having start-up issues. Senators general manager Bryan Murray told The Ottawa Sun he was close to a minor trade that would have brought the Senators a forward, but that the deal was taken off the table prior to completion. "We had a couple of teams I was talking fairly serious to about a smaller type deal that would add one player to our team, but it doesnt appear its going to happen at this point," Murray said. The Sun surmises the Senators are still looking for a winger to play with Jason Spezza and that the Sens still covet Mississauga-native Matt Moulson. Waiting on Bolland The Toronto Maple Leafs may be looking to add bodies before the deadline as they cling to third in the Atlantic Division, but much of their activity may well depend on the return of Dave Bolland. Bollands eventual return - whether before or after the Olympic break &ndassh; will necessitate some roster movement on its own, with the Toronto Star reporting that at least two players will need to be moved to get down to the 23-man roster limit. Martin St. Louis World Cup Jersey. However, his return could also move some salary cap dominoes, especially with the team having added Tim Gleason into the mix over the duration of Bollands rehab. The Star report points toward the Leafs recent resurgence in secondary scoring as one factor to consider before any possible addition as well as managements stated belief in the teams depth. Addition and Subtraction? The Buffalo Sabres - currently 30th overall in the National Hockey League - will undoubtedly be busy at the deadline, but will they exclusively be in sell-off mode? The Buffalo News notes that should the team pull the trigger on a deal to move long-time starting netminder Ryan Miller, the team may also have to consider adding to its options in net for both the present and future. Jhonas Enroth is 1-10-5 and hasnt won since Oct. 25. The Buffalo News states that if new general manager Tim Murray is not confident he can win with Enroth moving forward, the Sabres could be in the market for a goalie. • TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Raekwon McMillan Jersey . -- David Beckham brought his international star power to the halls of the Florida Capitol on Tuesday, trying to rally support from the governor and legislators for the Major League Soccer franchise he plans to bring to Miami later this decade. Beckham was mobbed by legislators and legislative aides during his visit as they took to social media to document his visit. Even Gov. Rick Scott took a "selfie" of himself with Beckham. Beckham made no secret that he wants to tap into state subsidies like most of the states other professional teams have done. The Florida Legislature is advancing a bill this year that would create a process that lets pro sports teams compete for a share of state tax dollars in the future. "No ones promised me anything," Beckham said about his brief visit. "But they promised me that they support having the team in Miami and are excited about that. Its good that they havent promised me anything, because then I know its going to be fair and the decision will be down to what they think is best for the state." The 38-year-old former England captain said he had never previously visited Tallahassee which has a much more Old South feel than cosmopolitan Miami. "Its going to sound silly and people are probably going to laugh at me but I love the moss on the trees," Beckham. "Ive only seen it in scary movies. Ive never seen it close up." Beckhams visit to the Capitol came a day after his architects and advisers recommended the Port of Miami as the stadium site for his team. The plan announced Monday would have an open-air stadium with views of the bay and the downtown skyline. The capacity could be as low as 21,000 or as high as 35,000. He was escorted around the Capitol by high-powered lobbyist Brian Ballard, who has been a major fundraiser for Republicans. Under the proposed bill, pro teams could qualify for as much as $2 million a year depending on how much the team invests in the project. A similar bill was considered last year, but it was never considered by the Florida House because initially it included help for the Miami Dolphins. Scott said on Tuesday he can support a sports incentives bill as long as it has safeguards to ensure a return on investment, including a provision to pay back the state if the pro team doesnt generate as much money as anticipated. "Its exciting he wants to invest in Florida," said Scott about his meeting with Beckham. A spokesman for House Speaker Will Weatherford called the meeting "informational" and said the speaker stressed his support for a bill that would create a process to guide future professional team subsidies. Sen. Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando and in line to become the next Senate president, said he and Beckham primarily discussed Orlandos Major League Soccer franchise that is expected to start playing next year. Beckham said hes confident that Florida can support two franchises especially since the league is "stable" now. The league previously had two teams in the state. Dalen Kuchmey pulled himself from Windsors net, went to the dressing room, changed and drove away from the arena after giving up eight goals on 26 shots, leaving the Spitfires trailing 8-1 with 5:34 remaining in the second period. London went on to win the game 10-2. "Youre going to have to ask him," Spitfires head coach Bob Boughner said when asked about Kuchmeys whereabouts during the third period. "He left the ice and the rink before the (second) period was over. He quit on our team and he quit on his teammates." Kuchmey was making his first start of the series, filling in for regular starter Alex Fotinos who came down sick after starting Game 1 and 2. London jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of play and Boughner spoke to Fotinos about replacing Kuchmey to start the second, but decided to stick with the healthier 19-year-old despite the score. "I asked our backup goalie (Fotinos) who had been sick all day at the end of the first period if he could go in if we had to pull Kuch at some point," Boughner said. "He said, if you need me, great, but I dont feel good at all. Added Boughner: "Our backup was sick. It is what it is and I really dont have anything more to say as I havent talked to (Kuchmey). • PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. Jimmy Garoppolo Jersey . -- Major League Baseball owners and the players union remain at work on drafting a rule that would ban home-plate collisions. MLB Chief Operating Officer Rob Manfred said Thursday that owners "fully expect" to have a rule in place, hopefully this season, but that talks are ongoing. Joe Torre, MLBs executive vice-president for baseball operations, said that the rule, in essence, will "make sure a baserunner cant purposely bowl over" a catcher. Torre says the mentality of runners rounding third and wanting to score at any cost will have to change. "Theres going to be some inadvertent contact that youre not going to be able to avoid," Torre said, "only because the catcher has to go catch the ball." Players association Tony Clark anticipates approval of the rule for this season. A former catcher, manager and broadcaster, Torre said he was approached about a possible rule change in 2011 by San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy after Giants catcher Buster Posey sustained a severe, season-ending ankle injury in a home-plate collision. "I talked to Bruce Bochy because he was very concerned," Torre said. "At the time, I said anything that makes sense Ill look at it, but I really didnt see anything that made sense to make sure it doesnt affect our game in a negative manner." But as time passed and more injuries occurred, the idea of a rule change grew more plausible, Torre said. "Weve had minor league injuries," he said. "Ive had letters from parents about what happened to their youngsters." Torre spoke with a series of managers, including St. Louis Mike Matheny, a former catcher. "We all know he had to give up the playing part of it because of the concussions, the number he sustained," Torre said. "Theres an 18-month period of his life that he cant recollect. You have to pay attention to that." Duron Harmon Jersey . The incident occurred at 6:28 of the first period in Anaheims 6-3 home win over Dallas on Sunday. • NEW YORK -- Jason Collins started walking from the bench to the scorers table, fans rising out of their seats all around Barclays Center. Cameron Artis-Payne Jersey . He committed a foul five seconds after entering. His only shot barely hit the rim. Collins performance may not have been pretty, but everything else was great. Collins played the final minutes of a winning home debut with the Brooklyn Nets, who cooled off the Chicago Bulls with a 96-80 victory Monday night. "It was cool. It was a lot of fun to go into the game," Collins said. "The most important thing was that we got the win. Chicagos been playing really well as of late and for us to come out and really be -- I think we played more physical than they did tonight." Finally playing at home more than a week after returning to the NBA as the leagues first openly gay player, Collins checked in to a standing ovation from a sellout crowd of 17,732 that included former NBA Commissioner David Stern with 2:41 remaining. He grabbed a rebound and had one of the Nets NBA season high-tying 19 steals in their third straight victory. Deron Williams scored 20 points and Joe Johnson had 19 for the Nets (29-29), who got back to .500 for the first time since they were 2-2 after beating Utah on Nov. 5. D.J. Augustin scored 16 points off the bench for the sloppy Bulls, who turned it over 28 times, leading to 30 Nets points, and had their four-game winning streak snapped. The Bulls had a franchise-low three turnovers in their 109-90 victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday and had won nine of 10. But the Nets were too good in this one, building a series of comfortable leads and making the only intrigue down the stretch whether Collins would get in during his first home appearance for the Nets since Jan. 29, 2008, against Milwaukee in East Rutherford, N.J. A chant of "Jason Collins! Jason Collins!" broke out while Williams was shooting a free throw with the Nets leading 90-73 with 3:27 remaining. Fans finally got their wish less than a minute later -- though not because coach Jason Kidd was listening to them. "No, the game was out of hand, so I wanted to get those guys some rest," he said. "D-Will was shooting free throws. Couldnt put Twin in at that time, so I told him after the free throws that he would come in." Collins original 10-day contract will expire Tuesday and the Nets plan to sign him to a second deal on Wednesday. A Nets player from 2001-08, he has appeared in all five games since he signed on Feb. 23. Paul Pierce and Shaun Livingston each scored 14 points for the Nets, who were without starting centre Kevin Garnett for a second straight game because of back spasms. "Mentally, the Bulls have really had our numbers," Pierce said. "To be honest, if I was them Id feel like when they come play the Nets, they feel like they could beat us every time. I think the guys really had pride tonight to say, You know were tired of getting pushed around by the Bulls." Joakim Noah managed just 10 points, six rebounds and one assist for the Bulls, a day after finishing with 13 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds in his fifth career triple-double. The All-Star centre rolled his right ankle early in the second half of that game and said it hurt after the game, but he was determined to play Monday in his hometown. The Bulls had dominated the first two meetings and beaten the Nets four straight times, but Brooklyn controlled this one most of the way in improving to 12-2 at home since Chicagos rout here on Christmas Day. "We smashed them in the mouth twice, its never going to be easy to come in to tough-minded team and do it again," Bulls forward Taj Gibson said. The Nets scored the first eight points, the last one on Williams free throw after Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau screamed his way to a technical foul after calling time. Their lead grew to 15, but the Bulls trimmed it to 27-18 by the end of the first quarter. Brooklyn led 50-42 at halftime, and Chicago started the second half just as bad as the first. The Nets scored the first seven to take a 57-42 lead when Williams set up Mason Plumlee for a dunk. "I think we had all intentions to play hard, but like I say, it didnt show," Augustin said. "Being down early, you cant come start the game down, you cant start the second half down, so that was our big mistakes, and then the turnovers killed us." NOTES: The Nets 19 steals were their most since finishing with 20 against Indiana on March 21, 1989. ... Brooklyn hadnt scored more than 23 points in a period against Chicago this season and surpassed that in both the first (27) and third (26). Matt Kalil Jersey . • SINGAPORE - Simona Halep has two entries in her off-season calendar: party with friends, and pump some iron. Cris Carter Jersey .The Romanian was comprehensively beaten 6-3, 6-0 by Serena Williams in Sundays championship match at the WTA Finals and left Singapore with mixed feelings: disappointment at the loss yet satisfaction with a season which elevated her firmly into the elite of the womens game.In May last year, Halep was ranked No. 67 and the former top-ranked junior was struggling to transition into the power game at the highest level. Now she is ranked No. 4, having completed a week in which she comprehensively beat Williams — in the group stage — Eugenie Bouchard and Agnieszka Radwanska, losing just 11 games in the process. She may have played well below her best Sunday, but the party with friends and family back in Romania is still planned.Yeah, I will do, Halep said. I dont forget that I beat Serena this week.It wasnt my best day, but Im still happy and Im still enjoying this moment because its a good moment for me. Im still young. So I continue my way, my hard work every day to go to be a champion one day. But we will see if it will happen. The contrast between the game style of Halep and Williams was stark in the final. Halep likes to take her ground strokes early, using cross-court angles to keep her opponents running and off balance, but she had no opportunity to do that against Williams. Her American opponent used punishing ground strokes, mixed in with a lot of play at the net, to keep Halep on the back foot. The power deficit against the likes of Williams, Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova is the main area Halep needs to address to challenge for Grand Slam titles.Maybe to work more in the gym to be stronger, to have more power, was Haleps response when asked for her off-season priorities.I improved a lot this year, so Im happy with my game. Still, I have to work more on the shots, on the serve and the return also, because the return is very important to me.Halep made the French Open final as well as Sundays title decider, but was uncertain if the next step was going to come quickly. My dream is to win a Grand Slam, but I dont know if I can do next year, Halep said. I want to improve more in my game and then we will see what is going to happen. I want to remain in top 10 next year. Anthony Barr Jersey . • NORTH BAY, Ont. Patrick Omameh Jersey . -- Jason Dickinson and Pius Suter had two goals each as the Guelph Storm routed the North Bay Battalion 10-1 on Wednesday to take a 3-1 lead in the Ontario Hockey League final. Scott Kosmachuk scored and had three assists for Guelph, while Kerby Rychel and Robby Fabbri had a goal and two assists apiece. Matt Finn, Zac Leslie and Tyler Bertuzzi chipped in as well. Goalie Justin Nichols made 22 saves for the win. "We have a lot guys chipping in, if one guy is not going one night the next guy is. You just have to work on keeping things simple and getting pucks in. Things are just clicking right now," said Kosmachuk. Nick Paul was the lone scorer for North Bay. Jake Smith stopped 16-of-23 shots faced in 38:11 of work, while Brendan ONeill turned aside 15-of-18 shots in relief. "It was a disappointing loss, they got the jump on us early and we didnt recover from that and the game spiralled from that," said North Bay coach Stan Butler. The Storm scored on two of their three power plays, while the Battalion could not convert any of their three man advantages. Guelph struck early, scoring three goals in the first frame, including two by Suter. The centre opened the scoring just four minutes into the game and added to the Storms lead with a short-handed goal at the tail end of the period to make it 3-0. The other goal came at the 11-minute mark from Kosmachuck. All told the Battalion were outshot 14-4 in the period. "We werent emotionally attached to the game early on. We seem to play better when we get intense and involved," Guelph head coach Scott Walker said. "I thought the players did a heck of a job staying disciplined." It didnt get much better for the home team in the second. Leslie scored on the Storms first shot on net and, just 90 seconds later, Dickinson blew the game wide open with his seventh of the playoffs. Smith was finally pulled from the Battalions net after Bertuzzi made it 7-0 with less than two minutes to go in the period. But ONeill didnt fare much better, surrendering a goal before the buzzer. "In playoffs youve got to have a very short memory, because if you dont youre going to dwell on things that are going to affect you going forward. Are we disappointed? Obviously. Are we upset? Extremely. Are we frustrated? No. We got to play a lot better on Friday night," said Butler. North Bays lone bright spot was Pauls goal midway through the third. Rychel and Finn responded for the Storm in period. Game 5 is Friday in Guelph, Ont. "We have a very good leadership group in our room," said Kosmachuk. "They know its not going to be easy. We have to be on our toes and play hard." North Bay has already battled back in the playoffs after being down 3-1. According to ESPNs Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears worked out free agent wide receivers Santonio Holmes and Ben Obamanu on Tuesday. The Bears are looking to add depth to the wide receiver position after projected No. 3 Marquess Wilson underwent surgery to repair a broken collarbone. Wilson is projected to return at some point in the regular season, though no timetable has been set. Holmes spent last season with the New York Jets and had 23 receptions for 456 yards and one touchdown in 11 games. He has not had a 1,000 yard season since he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2009, he was traded the following offseason to the Jets. Obamanu was cut by the Jets in October and not picked up by any other team. His most productive seasons came with the Seattle Seahawks in 2010 and 2011; he had over 400 yards in each of those seasons. The Bears roster currently features receivers Eric Weems, Chris Williams, Josh Morgan, Michael Spurlock, Armanti Edwards, Josh Bellamy and Dale Moss all fighting for roles behind Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey. Coach Marc Trestman indicated during his press conference on Tuesday that another receiver would be signed by Thursday. Striding to a Start? Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland thinks Tuesdays Browns practice could be "regarded as the day the light went on for Johnny Manziel." Manziel split time with Brian Hoyer working with the first-team offence, but had one of his best showings to date. Matt Cassel was listed as the teams starting quarterback on their first depth chart and is expected start the teams opening preseason game but Bridgewater will be given a chance to pass Cassel in the starting race. The Vikings traded up to select Bridgewater 32nd overall in Mays draft and appear to have confidence in the Louisville product. "We need to play Teddy with the first line," offensive coordinator Norv Turner said Tuesday. "We need to mix a lot of players. I think were still trying to work that out in terms of how we want to do it. I know Coach [Mike] Zimmer has a plan in place. It will be a number of plays, and we want to see Teddy play. He needs to play to get through that the first time going out." ESPNs Ben Goessling reports Bridgewater had a strong day in practice on Monday, completing 8-of-10 passes in the 11-on-11 drill with the second-team offence. • Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of catcher Jordan Guida and right-handed pitcher Christian Garcia to contracts for the 2014 season. Nate Orchard Jersey . Guida, 25, saw limited action in 42 games with the Goldeyes last season. He hit .184 in 38 at-bats and registered an RBI. He didnt register enough at-bats to accumulate a year of service, so he remains a first-year rookie in the American Association. “Hes a really good rookie,” Forney said. “Unfortunately the way our roster evolved last year, we didnt get him nearly enough playing time as I would have liked. He has the ability to be a really good catcher. He has good hands, a really strong throwing arm, good feet behind the plate and really does a good job of calling games. Offensively, I think he has a lot of pop and some extra-base hit potential. We look forward to see him in camp again this year.” Guida was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Tigers in 2012 and played the second half of that season in their system. Garcia, 22, played most of last season in the Houston Astros organization at the Rookie level with Greeneville of the Appalachian League. He went 2-1 with a 5.85 ERA in 16 appearances with Greeneville and had two scoreless appearances with Class A Short Season Tri-City of the New York/Penn League. “He came highly recommended from an agent,” Forney said. “He has a powerful arm, anywhere from 91-94 MPH. Were looking for some younger guys to help fill out our pitching staff. Were hopeful he can come in and solidify a spot on the team. He can start and relieve. Well get a good look at him in training camp and determine where he fits best on our roster.” A 29th round selection by the Astros in the 2012 MLB amateur draft, Garcia played the last two seasons in their system at the Rookie and Class A Short Season levels. Winnipeg has also released pitchers Mark Hardy and Patrick Keating, who have retired from professional baseball. The Goldeyes now have 20 players signed for the 2014 season, including nine pitchers and 11 position players. Ricardo Louis Jersey . Carcillo was a little of both for New York in Game 3. Now, they need to prove theyre really back on track — at a place where they havent had much success over the years. The Pacers evened the series against the eighth-seeded Atlanta Hawks with a dominating third-quarter performance in Game 2, stifling some of the incessant criticism the supposed best team in the East had endured after sleepwalking through the final seven weeks of the regular season and turning in a dismal performance in the playoff opener. Of course, the condemnation will start up all over again if the Pacers falter in Game 3 on Thursday night. Theyve got to keep their edge. "That was my point to them," coach Frank Vogel said after a practice in Indianapolis, before the team hopped on a 90-minute flight to Atlanta. "Weve got to maintain that." While a bit down about their most recent showing, the Hawks already accomplished their primary goal of the series — win a game on the road to steal away the home-court advantage. Besides, this team has endured plenty of adversity in recent years, from a massive overhaul that left Atlanta with almost an entirely new roster to the loss of top player Al Horford with a season-ending injury back in December. The Hawks may have lucked into the playoffs with the worst record of any qualifier (38-44), but theyve shown plenty of grit and teamwork to make up for their deficiencies. "Our group has been very, very resilient all year, very tough-minded all year," rookie coach Mike Budenholzer said after a film session with his players. "Ive felt good about this group all year, and I dont feel any differently now." The Hawks did plenty of good things in the first two games, winning the opener rather easily, 101-93, and positioning themselves to pull off another shocker when they built an 11-point lead in the first half Tuesday night. Suddenly, Indiana took control, outscoring the Hawks 552-27 through the rest of the half to the end of the third quarter, pretty much removing any doubt about the outcome when Paul George hit a long 3-pointer at the buzzer. Christian Kirksey Jersey. "We had to prove our point," guard Lance Stephenson said. The Pacers have won only twice at Philips Arena since December 2006, a drought that included a 13-game losing streak stretching for more than six years. But Vogel was quick to point out that Indiana has won two of its last three games in Atlanta, including a series-clinching victory in last years playoffs. "Weve won three of our last four if youre counting the preseason," he added. Indiana struggled early on in Game 2, trying to get centre Roy Hibbert more involved in the offence. When that didnt work, the Pacers turned to more familiar weapons. George scored 27 points, knocking down five 3-pointers. Point guard George Hill sparked the offence with his slashing drives into the lane, scoring 15 points over the final two quarters after going scoreless in the first half. Luis Scola provided a huge spark off the bench, scoring 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting, most of them jumpers in the 18- to 21-foot range. "He hit a lot of shots," Budenholzer said. "Credit to him. Now the challenge for us is to make those shots harder and more difficult and more challenged." The Hawks also have to figure out a way to get their point guard, Jeff Teague, to play more like he did in Game 1 (a career playoff-high 28 points) than he did in Game 2 (14 points, just two coming in the second half). The 6-foot-9 George switched over to cover the quicker player and did a marvelous job, limiting the penetration that allows Teague to set up good looks from the outside. Atlanta went 10 of 29 beyond the arc, missing 11 in a row in one stretch as the Pacers seized control. "Paul George is a very good defender no matter who he guards," Budenholzer said. "Hes going to have an impact on the game." Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

  • MONTREAL -- It wont take long for Thomas Vanek to get his first taste of the heated Montreal Canadiens-Boston Bruins rivalry. Ed Dickson Jersey . The 30-year-old acquired by Montreal at last weeks NHL trade deadline will play his first home game at the Bell Centre against the Bruins on Wednesday night. "Rivalries are for the fans," Vanek said Tuesday. "Theyre good for the league, but for us in here, and Im sure its the same as everywhere. Its just about winning the two points. "But Im sure the atmosphere will be great and I cant wait to experience it." Vanek has a reputation as a Bruins killer, with 61 points in 53 career games against Boston. So the acquisition of the high-scoring forward by Montreal gave an added jolt to the rivalry. But the Austrian winger said there are no secrets about how to score on the Bruins. "Numbers are numbers," he said. "Sometimes theyre overblown. "I dont prepare any different. Its just another game, really. Theyre a good team and youve got to be ready. The last four or five years, Boston has been one of the better teams in the league and you want to play your best against the best teams." The Canadiens are 2-0-0 against Boston this season and have won their last five meetings. But the Bruins (42-17-5) hold a comfortable 12-point lead over Montreal (35-24-7) in the Atlantic Division standings. Vanek was acquired while the Canadiens were on a four-game west coast road trip. So he didnt get in a full practice with his new team until it returned to Montreal. He was held without a point in his first two games with Montreal while playing on the second line with centre Tomas Plekanec and Brian Gionta. Some feel he would do better on a more attack-oriented unit, as Plekanec is considered the clubs top defensive centre even if he can also contribute offensively. "Weve got to be good in our own zone and Plekanec is very good in all zones," said Vanek. "He can make plays. Hes great in faceoffs, great defensively, but at the same time, were expected to produce. "At least thats what Im expecting of myself." Coach Michel Therrien plans to keep the line together, at least for now. "It takes time for players to adapt to new teammates," said Therrien. "I want to be patient. I think that combination can work." Tuesdays session, which lasted more than an hour at the Bell Centre, saw goalie Carey Price take part in a full practice for the first time since leading Canada to gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Price aggravated a suspected groin injury in his first practice after the Sochi Games. Therrien said Price wont dress for the Boston game but will be re-evaluated at the end of the week. That opens the possibility of playing Saturday at home against Ottawa. Therrien also said Francis Bouillon, who has sat out the last seven games, will play. Montreal is hurting on defence with veteran Josh Gorges out at least four weeks with a fractured left hand. Gorges was hurt while blocking a shot during a 4-3 win over Toronto on March 1. He played the first two games of Montreals road trip but then was sent home to have his hand re-examined. Gorges said the original fracture was considered stable, so he could continue playing. But something happened during a win in Anaheim that made it unstable. "At that point, they felt it was best to get it fixed," he said. "Potentially, it might not have been able to heal at all so they decided to have it fixed now and have me back ready by the end of the year." He said playing through the injury was difficult, but possible. "I was able to do what I needed to contribute," he said. "Certain aspects were tough. "Grabbing my stick. Grabbing the puck if I needed to clear it on the penalty kill. But I was still able to make passes, receive passes. As long as I wasnt hurting the team, I was able to go." Thats fine. His numbers are doing the talking for him. Zimmermann dominated after a shaky start and rookie Anthony Rendon had his third three-hit performance as the Washington Nationals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 on Wednesday night. After surrendering two runs in the first inning, Zimmermann (11-3) held the Diamondbacks scoreless with one hit over his final six innings. He allowed three hits overall, retired the final 10 batters he faced and improved to 13-0 at home dating back to May 17, 2012. The right-hander is tied for the major league lead in wins with Detroits Max Scherzer. In 16 starts, Zimmermann sports a 2.28 ERA. "It means a lot," Zimmermann said about notching his 11th victory. "These guys have given me great run support all year. Im pitching pretty well, too." The NL West-leading Diamondbacks have lost three straight, including the first two games of their current 10-game road trip. Wade Miley (4-7) allowed three runs, including an unearned run in the fifth. Denard Span scored on Ryan Zimmermans double play after Tyler Moores solo homer in the fourth tied the game. Zimmermann struck out four and issued two walks, raising his season total of base on balls to a minuscule 17 in 114 2-3 innings. Arizonas only hit against the Nationals starter after the first inning was Jason Kubels two-out single in the fourth. "He got rolling," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "Got all of his pitches over, put them where he wanted to. We had some borderline balls that we swung at when he got ahead." Tyler Clippard worked the eighth and Rafael Soriano closed out the ninth for his 21st save. Soriano allowed a one-out single and issued an intentional walk, but A.J. Pollocks popup ended the game. The Diamondbacks worked Zimmermann hard early, forcing him to throw 28 pitches in the first inning. "I just didnt feel very good in the first couple of innings," said Zimmermann, who has made 20 starts since his last home loss. "I knew I had to have some quick innings. After that and I was able to get a few and get it back to manageable pitches and go seven." As for possibly playing in the midsummer classic on July 16, Zimmermann said, "Im not thinking about that until it comes out and then Ill talk to you guys about it. Ryan Kalil Jersey. ." Rendon had two singles and double in his first three at-bats before a flyout to the wall in the eighth inning. Since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on June 4, he has multihit performances in 10 of 18 games and is batting .392 (29 for 74). Groomed as a third baseman, Rendon is making the transition to second on the big league level, but its the batters box where he is most at-ease. "Thats where I feel the most comfortable," Rendon said. "Thats what Ive been doing my whole life. I like to hit." Miley pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out four. Arizona starting pitchers are 0-7 since June 5. "Felt good, got in a rhythm a little bit," said Miley, now 0-2 in his last four starts. "Made some mistakes early and they capitalized on it." Span singled off Miley leading off the fifth, advanced to second on a passed ball, moved to third on Rendons third hit and crossed home on Zimmermans double play. After picking up hits in his final three at-bats on Tuesday, Paul Goldschmidt doubled in his first plate appearance against Zimmermann, scoring Aaron Hill from first base after a walk. Martin Prados two-out single plated Goldschmidt and staked Miley to a 2-0 lead in the first before the crowd of 31,172. Zimmerman hit an RBI double in the bottom half. • ABERDEEN -- Three years after virtually giving up on links golf, a more mature Rory McIlroy appears ready to give it another chance. Reilly Smith Jersey . McIlroy tamed blustery conditions on day one of the Scottish Open to shoot a 7-under 64 on Thursday, giving him a one-stroke lead and showing his links game is in great shape ahead of next weeks British Open at Hoylake. "I feel I am as prepared as I have ever been to play this type of golf," a smiling McIlroy said after rolling in eight birdies -- six of which came in a stunning seven-hole spell from Nos. 8-14 at Royal Aberdeen. How things have changed from 2011. At a wet and wild British Open at Royal St. Georges that year, a frustrated McIlroy opened his heart, saying he wasnt a fan of tournaments where the "outcome is predicted so much by the weather" and that "theres no point in changing your game for one week a year." Coming from someone who grew up playing on the links in his native Northern Ireland, it was a strange outburst. That seems to be in the past now. "Im going to make it my favourite style for two weeks a year," said McIlroy, adding he was "relishing the challenge" of playing in the wind and rain. Unheralded Swede Kristoffer Broberg -- who went out in the first group at 6:30 a.m. local time -- and Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina shot 65s to lie one shot behind McIlroy. Michael Hoey, a compatriot of McIlroy, was a stroke further back after a 5-under 66, and former world No. 1 Luke Donald was among four players to shoot 67. Phil Mickelson missed a 3-foot par putt at the final hole for his only bogey in a 68, a solid start by the American to the defence of his title. McIlroys course-record round stood out, though. Refreshed after a two-week break that included a five-day trip to the Spanish island of Ibiza with friends, the two-time major winner looked back to his sharpest. He showed a good feel on the greens, especially in that barrage of birdies around the turn, and drove straight and long in the face of winds of up to 20 mph (30 kph). One of the highlights of his round was driving the green on the 436-yard 13th hole while the group ahead was on the putting surface. "I didnt really think that was out there," American golfer Rickie Fowler said of McIlroys score. Ominously for his British Open rivals, McIlroy said he felt completely at one with his game, the "polar opposite" to this time last year when he was "not very confident with anything." "Everything was pretty much on," he said. "In the conditions, this is as low as I have ever been." McIlroy has had problems backing up good opening rounds this season, so there is still hope for the rest of the field in northern Scotland. Up at 4 a.m. local time, Broberg showed the kind of form that won him four events on the second-tier Challenge Tour in 2012, earned him his tour card, and marked him as a star of the future. Five of his six birdies came from Nos. 6-12 and Broberg had just 24 putts in his round, putting him in contention to claim one of the four qualifying berths for the British Open that are available at Royal Aberdeen for non-exempt players finishing in the top 10. Gonzalez made light work of a front nine playing into the wind, and was 8 under par after an eagle 3 at No. 12. Two bogeys at the end saw him drop off the lead. Mickelsons round was typically eventful. A chip to 10 feet from a cart path at No. 13 was his shot of the day, while the British Open champion avoided a penalty on the 10th when his ball moved on his backswing for his second shot. A sharp gust of wind was to blame. Lee Westwood recovered from dropping five shots in his first five holes to post a 72, and six-time major winner Nick Faldo, playing his first regular European Tour event since 2010, had a 2-over 73 as he gets ready for a return to the British Open. When we really needed (Bryant) to step up, he was able to do that as usual, Lakers head coach Byron Scott said. (He) made some big shots for us. I think were probably where I thought, but I thought it would kind of be reversed. I thought wed go out a little bit slower and then be trending upwards. Now weve kind of flattened off again. The Canucks briefly led the NHL standings with a 16-6-1 mark back in late November, but are just 7-8-2 since, including back-to-back losses to the Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames that closed out a disappointing 2-3-0 homestand.Vancouver (23-14-3) sat second in the Pacific Division heading into Mondays action, but were just two points up on Calgary for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference, albeit with three games in hand.I think we realize how close it is to miss the playoffs, said Canucks defenceman Kevin Bieksa. Weve done a good job of staying in moment and taking care of the points, especially in the middle half, the dog days of the season. We make sure were up for these games because we know how important the points are.The Canucks will have to be up for Tuesdays opener of a five-game road trip against the league-leading Nashville Predators, who have just three losses on home ice this season.Weve got real tough games, said Desjardins. Its going to be a battle. Every points going to be a battle (but) hopefully teams are saying the same things about us.Speaking of battle, Desjardins was asked Monday before the Canucks left for Nashville what he wants more of in the second half of the season, and that was what came to mind for a team that didnt get a single power play against in the loss to Calgary. If youre battling hard then other teams get frustrated (and) when they get frustrated they take penalties, he said. Were pushing them, but were not pushing them to the point where they get frustrated and (are) taking penalties on us. We have to get to that point. The good news for the Canucks as they prepared to meet the Predators is that Vancouver has played much better away from home this season, sporting a 12-6-2 mark with victories in Pittsburgh, Washington and St. Louis.Desjardins was at a loss to explain discrepancy with the Canucks 11-8-1 home record, but offered a few ideas.Maybe its a factor that the guys are a little more focused (on the road), he said. Maybe they think on the road its going to bbe a real tough game and so they are really prepared, and maybe we relax a little bit at home, I dont know. Austin Rivers Jersey. Theres a couple games at home that it wouldnt have taken much (more effort) to get wins. You always wish you had a little bit more in those games.Canucks captain Henrik Sedin couldnt explain the road success either, adding the team tries to approach each game the same.I think we try to keep it simple, he said. Its not a big difference that way. I dont know why our home record isnt as good as on the road. Weve gone into some tough buildings and weve shown before this year that we can win in those buildings.Lack of scoring was a consistent theme last season when Vancouver missed the playoffs for the first time in six years. The Canucks scored just once in the losses to Florida (3-1) and Calgary (1-0) despite directing a combined 69 shots on target — they had 77 shots attempts against the Flames — but Desjardins suggested more can be done to make life difficult on the opposition.Weve got to be harder, he said. Overall we do need more. I dont think were creating as much as we need to. We have to get better and we have to create more.Sedin agreed the Canucks have to do a better job getting to the dirty areas of the ice on a road trip that will also take them to Philadelphia, Carolina, Florida and Tampa Bay.Were not driving to the net, he said. Were not getting people there, and thats usually when (referees) are calling the penalties — when they take away a scoring chance. Its something we keep talking about, but weve got to do it in games.Teams across the league are in an almost constant search for consistency and the Canucks are no different as they approach the midway point of this campaign. But Sedin said if someone had told him back in training camp that Vancouver would have 49 points through 40 games, he would have taken it.I think if you ask anyone, its a good spot to be in for us, he said. Weve got a lot of games in hand on a lot of different teams. But we know we need to win games. Its going to be tough all the way down to the final game, but its a great spot to be in. Its fun to be a part of.Were happy, but were not satisfied.Notes: Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis (torn groin), who has been out since getting hurt on Nov. 20, continues to practice with his teammates and hopes to play at some point on the road trip. ... On Tuesday, 10 players drove in runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Chicago White Sox, with the Angels winning the first game 8-4 and capping the night with a 7-5 victory. "I think our guys on the offensive side have proven that theyre going to pressure teams and get us runs," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Our challenge is going to be able to hold leads and we were able to do it today in two games." With Tuesdays wins, the Angels moved to within 3 1/2 games of first-place Oakland in the AL West. "We kept putting the pressure on," said reliever Joe Smith, who earned saves in both games. "After you win that first game of a doubleheader, its really hard to win two. ... (But) you put those runs right up on them early, that was huge for us." Calhoun homered and scored twice as the Angels held off the White Sox to complete the sweep. Kendrick added two hits and scored two runs as the Angels improved to 5-0 against Chicago this season. The twin-bill was quickly arranged after Mondays game was rained out. Jered Weaver (9-6) worked 5 2/3 innings for the win in the second game, allowing nine hits while striking out six. Chicago starter Scott Carroll (2-5) took the loss after pitching six-plus innings and giving up seven runs and 10 hits. The Angels manufactured three second-inning runs on four straight singles and a fielders choice, including RBIs credited to Kendrick, C.J. Cron and Grant Green. "You get yourself in trouble and put yourself in bad spots. It happened in both games," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "Especially with this lineup. You dont want to put anybody on and give them extra chances." The White Sox got two back with Conor Gillaspies first home run of the season, a two-run shot that drove in Alexei Ramirez with no outs. In the fifth, Calhoun stroked Carrolls 1-0 pitch into the right-field bullpen, scoring Green for a 5-2 lead. Kendrick scored on Hank Congers sixth-inning single for a 6-2 lead. The White Sox added three runs in the sixth as Gillaspies RBI single scored Ramirez, while Dayan Viciedos homer with one out brought home Gillaspie, cutting the deficit to 6-5. In the seventh, Carroll left with two runners on and no outs. White Sox reliever Jake Petricka walked two batters, forcing in Calhoun for a 7-5 Angels lead. In the first game, Trout hit a three-run homer, Pujols followed with No. 509 of his career and Garrett Richards allowed two hits in eight innings. Josh Hamilton also homered for Los Angeles, his first since June 3. Trouts shot off starter Hector Noesi (2-6) evened the score at 3 in the fifth. Pujols put the Angels ahead with his 17th of the season, tying Gary Sheffield for 24th place on the career chart. Jose Abreu hit his major league-leading 26th home run in the first to give Chicago a 3-0 cushion. Baltimores Nelson Cruz also has 26 homers. Richards (9-2) quickly recovered and improved to 5-0 since May 30. He struck out nine, walked two and matched his longest outing of the season. "I think I was the same pitcher from beginning to end," Richards said. "I wasnt going to let three runs in the first ruin my day." "(Richards) was great," Ventura said. "We got him early when Jose (homered) in the first inning, but after that, we didnt get many good swings against him. He had good stuff. " Noesi didnt allow a hit until the fifth, when Collin Cowgill beat out an infield single. He was pulled with no outs in the sixth and was charged with five earned runs and three hits. He walked seven and struck out seven. NOTES: Ventura said LHP Chris Sale (7-1, 2.30 ERA) is a worthy All-Star candidate despite spending a month on the disabled list. "Youre looking at a guy at the top of his game," Ventura said. "His numbers prove it." ... Abreu became the first player in MLB history with 26 home runs in his first 70 games. He also extended his hitting streak to 16 games, matching Ross Gloads record 16-game run in 2004. ... Pujols was in the lineup despite a swollen lymph gland near his right groin. "It shouldnt be anything thats going to impact what he needs to do," Scioscia said. ... The Angels acquired Rich Hill from Boston for cash earlier in the day. The left-hander had a 3.23 ERA in 25 relief appearances for Triple-A Pawtucket. Mark Lowe Jersey . He was 26. Edwards, the Supercup Championship leader, was in the passenger seat as an instructor for a private training session at Queensland Raceway at Willowbank, outside Brisbane, Porsche Motorsport said. Justin Verlander Jersey . 5 Trade Deadline is drawing closer and teams will be deciding on whether to buy or sell while figuring out which players can make the biggest difference and hold the greatest value. http://www.baseballtigersproshop.com/denny-mclain-tigers-jersey/ . -- Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno was admitted to the hospital Friday for observation due to minor complications from cancer treatments, his family said. TORONTO -- Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista will likely miss a few days with a mild hamstring strain but is not expected to go on the disabled list. The all-star right-fielder had an MRI exam done Monday after leaving Sundays game in Cincinnati. "Its definitely some of the best news I could have gotten," Bautista said. "I could have got the news of a torn hamstring or a higher-grade strain. But its the lowest grade strain that there could be -- grade one -- so its day by day." Bautista said theres a "really good chance" he wont have to go on the DL and added he might even be able to return during Torontos three-game series against the New York Yankees, which began Monday night at Rogers Centre. "Im not saying a start but a pinch-hit at-bat here or there, thats a possibility," he said. The Blue Jays have led the American League East standings for the last month but they won just three games on their recent 10-game road trip. Entering play Monday, Toronto had a 1 1/2-game lead on New York and the Baltimore Orioles. Toronto lost another key player over the weekend as infielder Brett Lawrie of Langley, B.C., will miss three to six weeks with a fractured right index finger. The Blue Jays placed him on the 15-day DL on Monday and recalled outfielders Anthony Gose and Kevin Pillar from triple-A Buffalo. "We need the two extra outfielders to cover while Jose is out," said Blue Jays manager John Gibbons. "When he comes back, I dont necessarily think we need two. But for the time being, we do." "Its an opportunity for somebody," Gibbons added. "Thats what it comes down to." Lawrie is batting .244 this season with 12 homers and 38 RBIs. The Blue Jays also optioned catcher Erik Kratz to the Bisons on Monday. Bautista is enjoying another strong season with a .305 average, 15 home runs and 49 RBIs in 77 games. His defensive play has been excellent and he leads all major-league players in fan voting for the July 15 all-star game in Minnesota. He suffered the injury while trying to leg out a single in the Blue Jays 4-3 loss to the Reds. "I was running down to first and I extended my leg to step on the bag and I justt felt a little sharp pain," Bautista said. Anthony Gose Jersey. "The usual feeling when you strain a muscle. Ive been there before so I knew what was going on. I had a good idea at least. I just didnt know how bad it was. "I knew I could have made it worse by staying in the game so I came out." Gibbons was unable to provide a specific return date but was relieved it didnt appear to be a serious injury. "Hopefully just a couple days," he said. "Well see." The Blue Jays opened June with five straight wins but have gone 4-11 since, entering the series opener against the Yankees. The timing of the injuries and the recent slide have not helped ease concerns from a jittery fanbase that the teams rare first-place run could soon come to an end, especially with New York and Baltimore now so close in the standings. "I dont think it should be blown out of proportion," Bautista said. "I think we have capable guys that can fill in on a short-term basis and hopefully do a great job. "Certainly the other guys that are in the lineup that are still regulars, they are plenty good to carry the offence and the team on the field. So I wouldnt blow it out of proportion." At the end of his five-minute pre-game availability, Bautista was asked what hed say to the portion of the fanbase who believes the teams strong play last month was an aberration, and that the results from the last two weeks are more the expected norm. "Well good for them," he said. "I dont have to defend ourselves. If they want to root for the Yankees or the Red Sox, be my guest. They shouldnt be Jays fans if thats how they feel. Thats my opinion." Torontos lineup card for the opener of the three-game series against the Yankees had a different look. Designated hitter Adam Lind moved into Bautistas No. 3 slot, batting behind shortstop Jose Reyes and left-fielder Melky Cabrera. First baseman Edwin Encarnacion remained in the cleanup spot and centre-fielder Colby Rasmus batted fifth and catcher Dioner Navarro was in the No. 6 spot. Third baseman Juan Francisco batted seventh, ahead of second baseman Munenori Kawasaki and right-fielder Gose.
