Two runs separated the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Lincoln Saltdogs in Game 1 of their American Association Divisional Series. Vinny Curry Jersey . One run separated them in Game 2. So, it was destined that Game 3 would reach extra innings. The Goldeyes battled back from a four-run deficit for the second time in the series to beat the Saltdogs 7-6 in 10 innings Saturday night in Game 3 of the AADS before 2,094 fans at Haymarket Park in Lincoln. The win gives the Goldeyes a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. Winnipeg can clinch the series tomorrow night in Game 4. The Goldeyes got on the board early as the second batter of the game, Jake Blackwood, hit a home run to left field in the top of the first inning. In the top of the third, Brock Bonds single up the middle hit Saltdogs starting pitcher Kevin McGovern in the back, which caused McGovern to leave the game. Bond then went to third after Lincoln reliever Justin Kuks threw a pickoff attempt down the right field line, and scored on a Tyler Kuhn sac fly. After Goldeyes starter Nick Hernandez struck out the first five Saltdogs he faced, Lincoln got to him in the bottom of the third. With a run on the board and two runners on base, Hernandez intentionally walked Saltdogs slugger Ian Gac to load the bases. Brian Joynts fly ball to left-centre field bounced off the glove of Goldeyes left fielder Donnie Webb and fell to the ground. The error cleared the bases and gave Lincoln a 4-2 lead. Two innings later, Gac reached on a slow rolling infield single and Joynt followed him with a two-run home run to right field. The Goldeyes used more of the long ball to get back in the game, as Josh Mazzola hit a three-run home run in the sixth and Casey Haerther stroked a solo home run in the seven to tie the game. Mazzola almost hit his second home run in as many at bats in the seventh, but Lincoln left fielder Jeremy Hamilton leaped at the wall to steal the home run. After Winnipeg reliever Brendan Lafferty left the go-ahead run on base for Lincoln in the bottom of the eighth and ninth, Reggie Abercrombie led off the top of the 10th with a single. He was sacrificed to second thanks to a bunt from Webb and went to third on a balk by Saltdogs reliever Trey Barham. That allowed Luis Alen to drive a ball to right field and Abercrombie scored on the sac fly. From there, Goldeyes closer Chris Kissock pitched a perfect 10th inning to preserve the win and earn his first save of the playoffs. Blackwood and Abercrombie each had three hits in the game, while Mazzola had three RBI. Lafferty picked up the win for the Goldeyes, while Barham suffered the loss.
