PHNOM PENH, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Liu Yunshan met with Cambodia's acting head of state and Senate President Samdech Say Chhum on Tuesday, agreeing to strengthen bilateral relations.


"China and Cambodia are good neighbors, friends, brothers and partners," said Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.


The China-Cambodia friendship has stood the test of the changing international landscape and shown great vitality, and bilateral relations are at an all-time high, Liu told Say Chhum, who is also vice president of the Cambodian People's Party.


China attaches great importance to developing relations with Cambodia and will work with Cambodia to deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation and realize common prosperity for the sake of the two peoples so as to foster a community of shared destiny, Liu said.


Liu thanked Cambodia's valuable support on issues concerning China's core interests, saying China will do its best to help Cambodia in its national development.


Stressing party-to-party relationship is an important component of bilateral relations, Liu said China will work with Cambodia to implement the consensus of the leaders of the two political parties, maintain close high-level exchanges and share experiences in national governance to guide the development of bilateral ties.


On behalf of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, Say Chhum thanked Liu's visit to Cambodia ahead of the upcoming 19th CPC National Congress, saying Cambodia treasures the traditional friendship with China.


Cambodia is willing to deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in sectors including economy and trade, push forward the cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, boost communication and coordination between the two sides on regional and international affairs, he said.


Noting the People's Party is willing to enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation with the CPC, he wished the 19th CPC National Congress success.


Liu is heading a CPC delegation on an official visit to Cambodia after his trip to Vietnam.




LOS ANGELES’ mayor declared Tuesday “La La Land” Day as acrobats suspended by ropes danced their way across the outside walls of City Hall to the tune of the film’s jubilant opening number “Another Day of Sun.”


Mayor Eric Garcetti proclaimed the honor for the musical that claimed six Academy Awards in February and put a spotlight on various locales throughout the city with elaborate song-and-dance numbers. Garcetti played the piano while a jazz ensemble performed several songs from the film, including “City of Stars.”


“This film held a mirror up to our city — showing the world our passion, our creativity, our optimism, and of course, the deep-seated desire of every Angeleno to jump out of their car in traffic and to just start dancing,” Garcetti said.


Garcetti honored the film’s Oscar-winning director, Damien Chazelle, its composer Justin Hurwitz and producers of the film about a young couple struggling to achieve their dreams in Los Angeles. The elaborate event coincided with the release of “La La Land” on DVD and Blu-ray.


“It’s very flattering for the city to embrace the movie like this,” Hurwitz said. “Because we were obviously embracing the city by making this movie. So to have it go the other way is very cool.”


The film received a record-tying 14 Oscar nominations and was briefly announced as the best picture winner before the actual winner, “Moonlight,” was correctly announced.


The “La La Land” festivities extended to Long Beach, where the Blind Donkey bar was getting a full-size “Seb’s” neon sign and featuring live music and themed drinks from the movie. It was the filming location for the jazz club named after Ryan Gosling’s character in the movie. On Sunday, prop vintage lamp posts from the film will be installed at Hermosa Beach Pier, where Gosling danced and sang “City of Stars” in the film.
