Once considered “neck and neck” for the slot receiver job in Oakland, he suffered a turf toe injury in the third preseason game that ended those hopes. In the past three days, Whalen was waived, cleared waivers and was placed on injured reserve, and was released from IR with an injury settlement. He is officially no longer with the team.For that matter neither is Ryan Switzer with whom Whalen was supposed to be in that heated battle for the slot receiver job. In the end, that went to Dwayne Harris and potentially Seth Roberts as well.As fro Whalen, his time as a Raider isn’t necessarily over. Should the team like him, there is a chance he could be back.The way injury settlements work is a player and the team agree to a payout based on how long the player is expected to be injured. After that time is up Youth Justin Ellis Jersey , he can sign anywhere, or wait three weeks at which point the Raiders are allowed to re-sign him.For instance, should the injury settlement for just one week, Whalen could be re-signed in a month.You need only look at what happened with James Cowser in 2016.
