LONDON Comprar Mujer Nike Air Vapormax 2018 Rosa , Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The number of British people enjoyingforeign holidays is the highest since the financial crash, theOffice for National Statistics (ONS) said Monday.
But in the last 20 years British tourists have turned theirbacks on traditional two-week holidays in favor of short breaks andweek-long trips, said ONS.
British residents went on more than 45 million foreign holidaysin 2016, up from 27 million in 1996, a 68 percent rise.
Another big change seen by ONS is the drop in the number ofso-called "booze cruises" across the English Channel.
Thousands of people used to make the day-trips to France tostock up on cheaper alcohol.
The numbers started to fall after 1999 when duty-free saleswithin the European Union ended, coupled with prices for cigarettesin France also rising.
The arrival of budget airlines has also led to sky-high numbersof British tourists heading to tourism hotspots across Europe, saidONS.
In the two decades since 1996 the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)said passenger numbers at British airports increased by 85 percent, from 135 million to 251 million, with half using the budgetcarriers.
"Around 50 percent of the traffic on low-cost carriers is newlygenerated, which means half of the people flying on budget airlinesin Europe weren't making those journeys before," said ONS.
At the same time, the number of people making sea crossings toEurope has fallen by 33 percent, with more opting to flyinstead,
ONS said not a lot has changed at the top of the destinationchart over the past 20 years, with Spain and France staying in thetwo top spots.
"While the number of holidays to Spain has rocketed by 87percent in 20 years, France is one of the few countries we'revisiting less than we were in 1996 with the number falling by 9percent," said ONS.
Germany has now joined the top 10 destinations for Britishholidaymakers, and another new entry is cruising along Europe'sfamous rivers, now four times as popular as it was 20 yearsago.
Two destinations that have dropped out of the top 10 since 1996are Belgium and Turkey.
Holidays to third placed Italy and fourth place Portugal haveboth more than doubled since 1996, with the only non-Europeandestination in the top 10, the United States, in fifth place.
Further down the rankings, the countries that have seen amassive percentage increase in British tourists are the United ArabEmirates (UAE), heading towards 600,000 a year compared to around25,000 in 1996, and Poland, also exceeding more than half a milliontourists from Britain.
ONS said the big rise in tourism to the UAE is largely due tothe popularity of Dubai, where there has been heavy investment inhotels and shopping malls.
And if there is any truth in the saying, every cloud has asilver lining, Iceland's success proves the point, said ONS.
Iceland's newfound popularity is less straightforward toexplain, said ONS, with a rise in the numbers of Britishholidaymakers beginning around 2010, just two years after theeconomic crisis devalued the Icelandic krona, making the countrymuch more affordable for foreign tourists.
But a volcano could also have played a part in explaining thesecret of Iceland's tourism boom.
ONS explained: "2010 was also the year that the volcanoEyjafjallajokull erupted, sending clouds of ash into the skiesabove Europe and grounding planes across the world. Some think thatthe TV pictures of Iceland shown around the globe encouragedvisitors to go there." Enditem
Corey Feldman says former actor Jon Grissom, who starred with him and Corey Haim in two films, sexually molested him as a child.
The accused man, whose name is often misspelled as "John Grissom," has not commented.
Last month, the 46-year-old Goonies actor released a seven-minute video, saying that he can named six people who allegedly committed sexual abuse and hopes to produce a movie about his life and the problem of pedophilia in Hollywood. The actor had often spoken out about the issue and in his 2013 memoir Coreyography, he named one of his alleged abusers, "Ron Crimson." On an episode of the Dr. Oz show that aired on Thursday, he confirmed to Dr. Mehmet Oz that that man is really Grissom.
"That is him," Feldman said as Oz held up a photo of the former actor on his phone. "That's the guy."
"This guy, on his Myspace page and his Facebook page has pictures of me and Corey Haim," Feldman said. "He still taunts it and flaunts it."
For years, since Feldman's book was released, people had speculated that "Ron Crimson" was Grissom.
