PRETORIA, South Africa -- Oscar Pistorius will probably testify at his trial later this week, a defence attorney said Tuesday after prosecutors rested their case against the double-amputee runner who is accused of murder in his girlfriends death. Richard Dent Jersey . In a rare public comment, Pistorius said he was going through "a tough time" as the case advanced. "Weve got a lot ahead of us," he told reporters after the court adjourned. Defence lawyer Brian Webber said Pistorius is "likely" to take the stand to open the defence case. "I dont think we have a choice. Its a question of when," Webber said of Pistorius testimony, which legal experts describe as critical because the judge will have a chance to assess firsthand whether he is credible. The case will be decided by Judge Thokozile Masipa with help from two assessors. South African courts do not have a jury system. After the prosecution rested, defence lawyer Barry Roux asked for time to consult some of the 107 state witnesses who had not testified against Pistorius, who admits shooting Reeva Steenkamp through the closed door of a toilet cubicle last year. Masipa adjourned the trial until Friday so Roux could prepare his arguments that Pistorius killed the 29-year-old model by accident, thinking she was an intruder in his home. Pistorius has sometimes reacted emotionally in the courtroom. He shed tears this week during testimony about text messages that he and Steenkamp exchanged in the weeks before her death on Feb. 14, 2013. In earlier testimony, he retched and vomited at a pathologists description of Steenkamps gunshot wounds. At other times, he has appeared calm, taking notes during testimony and conferring with his lawyers during breaks. The 27-year-old Olympian once basked in global publicity stemming from his achievements on the track but became an almost silent, somewhat cryptic figure after Steenkamps death, his account only outlined in legal statements that were carefully tailored by his high-powered legal team. Earlier Tuesday, Roux sought to show that Pistorius had a loving relationship with his girlfriend, referring to telephone messages in which they exchanged warm compliments and said they missed each other. The testimony contrasted with several messages read in court a day earlier in which Pistorius and Steenkamp argued, part of the prosecutions effort to demonstrate that the athlete killed his girlfriend after an intense disagreement. In those messages, Steenkamp told the runner that she was sometimes scared by his behaviour, which included jealous outbursts in front of other people. Roux noted that the tense messages amounted to a tiny fraction of the roughly 1,700 texts that police Capt. Francois Moller, a cellphone expert, extracted from the couples mobile devices. Roux noted a Jan. 19 exchange in which Reeva sent Pistorius a photo of herself in a hoodie and making a kissing face and asked, "You like it?" "I love it," Pistorius said, according to the message. "So warm," Steenkamp responded. Roux was also granted permission to show video broadcast by Sky News that showed Pistorius and Steenkamp kissing in a convenience store. Chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel questioned the relevance of the store video, saying he could ask for a courtroom viewing of another video, also broadcast by Sky News, which shows Pistorius at a gun range, firing a shotgun and using a pistol to shoot a watermelon, which bursts on impact. Nel also said many messages of affection between the couple were brief, in contrast to the texted arguments, which were far longer and dwelled on their relationship in greater depth. Earlier, Moller said Steenkamp connected to the Internet on her cellphone hours before Pistorius killed her. She made the connection just before 9 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2013, and the connection lasted for more than 11 hours, possibly because social media programs were still open. Mollers extraction of data also shed light on what appeared to be frantic calls made from one of Pistorius cellphones after the killing. They included a call to the administrator of the housing estate where Pistorius lived at 3:19 a.m. on Feb. 14, a call a minute later to an ambulance service and a call a minute after that to the housing estate security. Mitchell Trubisky Jersey . Sterling was banned for life and fined US$2.5 million by the NBA on Tuesday for racist comments the league says he made in a recorded conversation. Nash, who plays for the rival L.A. Lakers, spoke as a representative of current NBA players at a press conference assembled by Sacramento mayor and National Basketball Players Association adviser Kevin Johnson. Dion Sims Jersey . Lisicki beat South African Chanelle Scheepers by a 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) margin. Next up for the Wimbledon runner-up will be Slovenian Polona Hercog, who outlasted Czech Petra Cetkovska 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. http://www.probearsonline.com/authentic-cameron-meredith-bears-jersey/ . Ferrer was unable to find his rhythm in losing 6-4, 6-2 to Teymuraz Gabashvili in his opening match while Nadal struggled past fellow Spanish player Albert Ramos 7-6 (2), 6-4. Nadal eventually overcame his 103rd-ranked opponent to reach the third round, rebounding from a surprise loss to Ferrer in the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinals. ATLANTA -- A three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves moved the Phillies out of last place in the NL East and provided a huge confidence boost for their hitters. Ryan Howard capped a big series by driving in two runs with three hits and the Phillies battered Aaron Harang and the Braves 10-5 on Wednesday. Philadelphia set a season high with 18 hits. Five Phillies had three hits. "Its a good feeling because you put in the work," said Marlon Byrd, who drove in three runs with three hits, including a homer. "It seems like youve put in the work every single day and dont get the results. The results are the key. You start feeling good about yourself. "To come out here the whole series and put up runs against a good staff is huge for us, knowing that the work weve put in is starting to show up on the field." Howard, who hit homers in each of the first two games of the series, drove in a run with a double in the Phillies five-run second inning. He added a run-scoring single in the fifth. He had five hits, four walks and six RBIs in the series in Atlanta, where he has a good history. Howard has 46 career homers against Atlanta, more than against any other team. His 20 homers at Turner Field are his high mark for any road stadium. Asked what made the difference for Howard in the series, Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said "Possibly just some confidence." "This is a place hes hit well so maybe it brought back some positive thoughts," Sandberg said. "He has been seeing the ball real well, made them throw strikes and used the whole field." Evan Gattis hit a two-run homer in Atlantas four-run first inning off Roberto Hernandez (3-5). Ryan Doumit also homered and hit a two-run single for Atlanta. Hernandez overcame his rough first inning to last six innings, giving up five runs and eight hits and five walks. He had been 0-4 in eight starts since his last win on May 4 against Washington. "He had a rough first and the offence bounced right back for him and picked him up there," Sandberg said. Harang (5-6) allowed ninee runs, eight earned, in five innings. Prince Amukamara Jersey. He threw 115 pitches while allowing 13 hits and three walks. The Phillies have won seven of nine. Atlanta has lost eight of 12. The Phillies sweep knocked the Braves out of first place in the NL East, just in time for a visit to first-place Washington. "Were going to go into D.C. with a little bit of a chip on our shoulders," Doumit said. "This wasnt a good series. It left a bad taste in our mouths, but were going to go take it out on the Nationals." Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez tried a new lineup, and rookie Tommy La Stella was 0 for 4 with a walk in his first game hitting leadoff. "I thought we swung the bats well," Gonzalez said. "We were knocking on the door there almost the entire game trying to get back in it, which is a good sign." Trailing 4-2, the Phillies scored five runs in the second on six straight two-out hits, including a two-run single by John Mayberry Jr., who had three RBIs. Shortstop Cesar Hernandez, batting leadoff for the first time this season, had three hits and scored two runs. Domonic Brown and Will Nieves also had three hits. Nieves left the game with what Sandberg said appeared to be a quadriceps injury. Antonio Bastardo and Ken Giles combined for three scoreless innings behind Hernandez.
