The Toronto Blue Jays are in an unfamiliar position. Nike Free Online Sale . With just over two months to go in the season, the Jays hold the second Wild Card spot, are 2 1/2 games behind the A.L. East-leading Baltimore Orioles and have a very realistic chance at making the postseason for the first time since 1993. But they also have holes - and injuries - in their lineup that could easily lead to the drought continuing for another year. With MLBs non-waiver trade deadline on Thursday, Blue Jays fans will be seeking additions of some sort for the stretch run. Realistically, general manager Alex Anthopoulos wont be able to pick up everything on his wish list. So the question is - what do the Blue Jays need the most in order to make the best possible run for the playoffs? Second Base With injuries to Brett Lawrie, Edwin Encarnacion and Adam Lind, the Jays have had to run with a makeshift infield for the last little while, especially at second base. On Monday, Toronto picked up third baseman Danny Valencia, a player known for hitting lefties well over his career. Valencia has experience at second base as well, joining the likes of Munenori Kawasaki, Steve Tolleson and Ryan Goins, who have helped man the position for much of the season. With Lawrie (and the others) presumably close to returning, the Jays could keep the Canadian at third and continue with a platoon situation at second, or have Valencia play the hot corner while Lawrie jumps over to second which he did for a short stint earlier this season. There have been reports that the Blue Jays have shown interest in Asdrubal Cabrera of the Cleveland Indians, as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks Martin Prado and former Jay Aaron Hill. Is the return of Lawrie and the addition of Valencia enough for the Toronto infield, or should they get more? Starting Pitching You can never have enough starting pitching. The early season debate on whether it would be a good idea to deal Marcus Stroman for a veteran arm may seem unrealistic at this point as the rookie has arguably become the ace of the staff. R.A. Dickey, Mark Buehrle (who hasnt won a game since June 1), Drew Hutchison and J.A. Happ have all had peaks and valleys to their seasons. The injured Brandon Morrow is still a little ways away from returning and when he does, it will likely be as a reliever. Aaron Sanchez, 22, has been sharp in his two appearances from the bullpen, but John Gibbons and the Jays brass has given no indication theyll use him in a starting role this season. So does Toronto need to add a starting hurler? Jon Lester and David Price have been rumoured to be on the market, but its unlikely the Rays or Red Sox would trade within their division unless the Blue Jays come up with an incredible offer. Toronto may have to set their bar a little lower if they want to add to the rotation. Bullpen The Blue Jays bullpen hasnt been horrible this year, but it also hasnt been to the level of a season ago. Steve Delabar was an All-Star in 2013, but has spent much of 2014 with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. Brett Cecil has seen an increase in his earned run average from last year and Sergio Santos never found his stride before being designated for assignment last week. Overall, Toronto has the fourth-worst reliever ERA in all of the majors at 4.37 and is tied for 10th in home runs allowed with 30. Casey Janssen, Aaron Loup, Todd Redmond and most recently Sanchez have been bright spots, but a playoff team can never have enough pitching depth. Antonio Bastardo of the Philadelphia Phillies is one player reportedly on the Jays radar. Are there any other areas on the diamond Toronto should consider investing in? What do the Blue Jays need the most in order to make the best possible run for the playoffs? As always, its Your! Call. Nike Free Canada Sale . - The Detroit Lions have placed tight end Brandon Pettigrew on injured reserve, ending his season. Cheap Nike Free Canada . Ted Ligety, Mikaela Shiffrin, Bode Miller and Tim Jitloff underlined the squads enormous potential on the Rettenbach glacier in Austria. http://www.nikefreecanada.com/ . -- Having already fallen behind because of the NFL lockout, Blaine Gabbert couldnt afford a lengthy holdout.KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Phil Hughes ended a personal losing streak that dated to last July, pitching into the seventh inning Sunday and helping the Twins top the Kansas City Royals 8-3 to avoid a three-game sweep. Hughes (1-1), who signed a $24 million, three-year deal in December, allowed an RBI single to Omar Infante in the fifth and a two-run homer to Alcides Escobar in the seventh while winning for the first time in 17 appearances. He had lost eight games since that victory on July 2. Josmil Pinto homered and Trevor Plouffe and Kurt Suzuki each drove in a pair of runs for the Twins, who battered Yordano Ventura (1-1) before piling on against the Royals bullpen. The loss ended Kansas Citys five-game winning streak. Hughes solid showing came after he had allowed 12 earned runs in his first 15 innings with Minnesota. The former All-Star had not survived past the sixth since July 13, when he was still a member of the New York Yankees and was facing his current team. It helped that the Twins staked him to an early lead. After they went 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position in a 5-4 loss Saturday, Plouffe came through with a double in the Twins first opportunity Sunday. His drive into the gap in right was enough to score Brian Dozier and Joe Mauer and give Minnesota a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Twins added on in the fourth. After Suzuki walked, the Royals were unable to turn a double play on a grounder by Aaron&nnbsp;Hicks. Nike Free Cheap Online. . Ventura then threw the ball away trying to pick him off first, and a wild pitch put Hicks on third base. Eduardo Escobars single scored the run. Ventura was finally pulled from the game in the fifth, when the 22-year-old right-hander gave up a leadoff triple to Plouffe and a single to Chris Colabello. He allowed four runs on six hits and four walks in four-plus innings, a line that looks even uglier after two dominant outings in which he allowed a combined one run on six hits against Tampa Bay and Houston. The Royals bullpen, which had thrown 14 straight scoreless innings, never gave their offence a chance to get Ventura off the hook. Pintos homer came off Louis Coleman later in the fifth, and Justin Marks -- making his big league debut -- allowed three more runs in the seventh. Escobars two-run shot later in the seventh knocked Hughes from the game, but relievers Brian Duensing, Casey Fien and Glen Perkins made sure his long losing streak would finally end. NOTES: The Twins played with 24 players after claiming OF Sam Fuld off waivers from Oakland and designating OF Darin Mastroianni for assignment. Fuld is expected to join the Twins on Tuesday in Tampa Bay. ... The Royals open a four-game series Monday in Cleveland with RHP Jeremy Guthrie on the mound. The Twins are off before their three-game set against the Rays. ... The Twins left 11 on base. The Royals stranded eight.
