CHICAGO -- Whether its Mike Trout and Albert Pujols or Kole Calhoun and Howie Kendrick, theres no telling who might step up for the Los Angeles Angels on a given day. Al Kaline Tigers Jersey . On Tuesday, 10 players drove in runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Chicago White Sox, with the Angels winning the first game 8-4 and capping the night with a 7-5 victory. "I think our guys on the offensive side have proven that theyre going to pressure teams and get us runs," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Our challenge is going to be able to hold leads and we were able to do it today in two games." With Tuesdays wins, the Angels moved to within 3 1/2 games of first-place Oakland in the AL West. "We kept putting the pressure on," said reliever Joe Smith, who earned saves in both games. "After you win that first game of a doubleheader, its really hard to win two. ... (But) you put those runs right up on them early, that was huge for us." Calhoun homered and scored twice as the Angels held off the White Sox to complete the sweep. Kendrick added two hits and scored two runs as the Angels improved to 5-0 against Chicago this season. The twin-bill was quickly arranged after Mondays game was rained out. Jered Weaver (9-6) worked 5 2/3 innings for the win in the second game, allowing nine hits while striking out six. Chicago starter Scott Carroll (2-5) took the loss after pitching six-plus innings and giving up seven runs and 10 hits. The Angels manufactured three second-inning runs on four straight singles and a fielders choice, including RBIs credited to Kendrick, C.J. Cron and Grant Green. "You get yourself in trouble and put yourself in bad spots. It happened in both games," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "Especially with this lineup. You dont want to put anybody on and give them extra chances." The White Sox got two back with Conor Gillaspies first home run of the season, a two-run shot that drove in Alexei Ramirez with no outs. In the fifth, Calhoun stroked Carrolls 1-0 pitch into the right-field bullpen, scoring Green for a 5-2 lead. Kendrick scored on Hank Congers sixth-inning single for a 6-2 lead. The White Sox added three runs in the sixth as Gillaspies RBI single scored Ramirez, while Dayan Viciedos homer with one out brought home Gillaspie, cutting the deficit to 6-5. In the seventh, Carroll left with two runners on and no outs. White Sox reliever Jake Petricka walked two batters, forcing in Calhoun for a 7-5 Angels lead. In the first game, Trout hit a three-run homer, Pujols followed with No. 509 of his career and Garrett Richards allowed two hits in eight innings. Josh Hamilton also homered for Los Angeles, his first since June 3. Trouts shot off starter Hector Noesi (2-6) evened the score at 3 in the fifth. Pujols put the Angels ahead with his 17th of the season, tying Gary Sheffield for 24th place on the career chart. Jose Abreu hit his major league-leading 26th home run in the first to give Chicago a 3-0 cushion. Baltimores Nelson Cruz also has 26 homers. Richards (9-2) quickly recovered and improved to 5-0 since May 30. He struck out nine, walked two and matched his longest outing of the season. "I think I was the same pitcher from beginning to end," Richards said. "I wasnt going to let three runs in the first ruin my day." "(Richards) was great," Ventura said. "We got him early when Jose (homered) in the first inning, but after that, we didnt get many good swings against him. He had good stuff. " Noesi didnt allow a hit until the fifth, when Collin Cowgill beat out an infield single. He was pulled with no outs in the sixth and was charged with five earned runs and three hits. He walked seven and struck out seven. NOTES: Ventura said LHP Chris Sale (7-1, 2.30 ERA) is a worthy All-Star candidate despite spending a month on the disabled list. "Youre looking at a guy at the top of his game," Ventura said. "His numbers prove it." ... Abreu became the first player in MLB history with 26 home runs in his first 70 games. He also extended his hitting streak to 16 games, matching Ross Gloads record 16-game run in 2004. ... Pujols was in the lineup despite a swollen lymph gland near his right groin. "It shouldnt be anything thats going to impact what he needs to do," Scioscia said. ... The Angels acquired Rich Hill from Boston for cash earlier in the day. The left-hander had a 3.23 ERA in 25 relief appearances for Triple-A Pawtucket. Mark Lowe Jersey . He was 26. Edwards, the Supercup Championship leader, was in the passenger seat as an instructor for a private training session at Queensland Raceway at Willowbank, outside Brisbane, Porsche Motorsport said. Justin Verlander Jersey . 5 Trade Deadline is drawing closer and teams will be deciding on whether to buy or sell while figuring out which players can make the biggest difference and hold the greatest value. http://www.baseballtigersproshop.com/denny-mclain-tigers-jersey/ . -- Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno was admitted to the hospital Friday for observation due to minor complications from cancer treatments, his family said. TORONTO -- Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista will likely miss a few days with a mild hamstring strain but is not expected to go on the disabled list. The all-star right-fielder had an MRI exam done Monday after leaving Sundays game in Cincinnati. "Its definitely some of the best news I could have gotten," Bautista said. "I could have got the news of a torn hamstring or a higher-grade strain. But its the lowest grade strain that there could be -- grade one -- so its day by day." Bautista said theres a "really good chance" he wont have to go on the DL and added he might even be able to return during Torontos three-game series against the New York Yankees, which began Monday night at Rogers Centre. "Im not saying a start but a pinch-hit at-bat here or there, thats a possibility," he said. The Blue Jays have led the American League East standings for the last month but they won just three games on their recent 10-game road trip. Entering play Monday, Toronto had a 1 1/2-game lead on New York and the Baltimore Orioles. Toronto lost another key player over the weekend as infielder Brett Lawrie of Langley, B.C., will miss three to six weeks with a fractured right index finger. The Blue Jays placed him on the 15-day DL on Monday and recalled outfielders Anthony Gose and Kevin Pillar from triple-A Buffalo. "We need the two extra outfielders to cover while Jose is out," said Blue Jays manager John Gibbons. "When he comes back, I dont necessarily think we need two. But for the time being, we do." "Its an opportunity for somebody," Gibbons added. "Thats what it comes down to." Lawrie is batting .244 this season with 12 homers and 38 RBIs. The Blue Jays also optioned catcher Erik Kratz to the Bisons on Monday. Bautista is enjoying another strong season with a .305 average, 15 home runs and 49 RBIs in 77 games. His defensive play has been excellent and he leads all major-league players in fan voting for the July 15 all-star game in Minnesota. He suffered the injury while trying to leg out a single in the Blue Jays 4-3 loss to the Reds. "I was running down to first and I extended my leg to step on the bag and I justt felt a little sharp pain," Bautista said. Anthony Gose Jersey. "The usual feeling when you strain a muscle. Ive been there before so I knew what was going on. I had a good idea at least. I just didnt know how bad it was. "I knew I could have made it worse by staying in the game so I came out." Gibbons was unable to provide a specific return date but was relieved it didnt appear to be a serious injury. "Hopefully just a couple days," he said. "Well see." The Blue Jays opened June with five straight wins but have gone 4-11 since, entering the series opener against the Yankees. The timing of the injuries and the recent slide have not helped ease concerns from a jittery fanbase that the teams rare first-place run could soon come to an end, especially with New York and Baltimore now so close in the standings. "I dont think it should be blown out of proportion," Bautista said. "I think we have capable guys that can fill in on a short-term basis and hopefully do a great job. "Certainly the other guys that are in the lineup that are still regulars, they are plenty good to carry the offence and the team on the field. So I wouldnt blow it out of proportion." At the end of his five-minute pre-game availability, Bautista was asked what hed say to the portion of the fanbase who believes the teams strong play last month was an aberration, and that the results from the last two weeks are more the expected norm. "Well good for them," he said. "I dont have to defend ourselves. If they want to root for the Yankees or the Red Sox, be my guest. They shouldnt be Jays fans if thats how they feel. Thats my opinion." Torontos lineup card for the opener of the three-game series against the Yankees had a different look. Designated hitter Adam Lind moved into Bautistas No. 3 slot, batting behind shortstop Jose Reyes and left-fielder Melky Cabrera. First baseman Edwin Encarnacion remained in the cleanup spot and centre-fielder Colby Rasmus batted fifth and catcher Dioner Navarro was in the No. 6 spot. Third baseman Juan Francisco batted seventh, ahead of second baseman Munenori Kawasaki and right-fielder Gose.
