At the developers conference held in San Fransicso's Moscone Center, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella described his ideas about "conversation as a platform", referring to conversation between humans and bots, or artificial intelligence agents that can understand natural language.


"We think this can have as profound an impact as the previous platform shifts have had," Nadella said in his keynote speech. He made it clear that bots would become the next big way to interact with computers following mouse, keyboard and touch screen.

"We want to build intelligence that augments human abilities," he said. "It's not going to be about man versus machine, it's going to be about man with machines."


During the event, Microsoft demonstrated how users of its instant messaging service Skype could get things done by making conversations, in which Cortana acts as a broker for bots.


Microsoft also released a set of tools which allow developers to build their own bots.

Microsoft is not the only company working on digital assistant and bots. Its digital assistant rivals include Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri.


BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Despite rising food and oil prices, China's inflation growth will likely moderate in January due to a high base a year ago, the Bank of Communications said in a report.


BOCOM predicted the consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, will inch down to 1.4 percent year on year in January from the 1.8 percent growth in the previous month.


Food prices saw marked growth from a month ago as rain and snow across the country dampened the output of vegetables and other farm produce, according to the report.


Meanwhile, price spikes in domestic refined oil drove up the CPI's non-food sub-index as global crude prices hit the highest level in nearly three years last month.


But January's CPI will still moderate year on year as the price increases were offset by a high base in the same period of 2017 Bob Gibson FlexBase Jersey , when consumer prices picked up by the fastest pace in two and a half years.


China's inflation has remained subdued since last February, mainly due to stable food prices, with the full-year growth at only 1.6 percent, below the government's annual inflation regulation target of around 3 percent.

BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- A 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted waters near Hualien County in northeast Taiwan at 9:56 p.m. Sunday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).


The epicenter was monitored at 24.2 degrees north latitude and 121.72 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 10 km, the center said in a renewed statement. A 5.6-magnitude quake had been reported by the center.


A 5.5-magnitude aftershock was reported at 10:13 p.m. in the same region Stan Musial FlexBase Jersey , the center said in another statement.


The center earlier said that a 4.7-magnitude earthquake was monitored at 9:12 p.m. in the same region.


Taiwan's meteorological authority said that a series of earthquakes hit Hualien, with the strongest measured 5.8.

Local residents in Hualien said they had felt the quakes clearly at home. Local media reported that the quakes affected four trains.
