The 5-year veteran has been able to fight and win a starting spot across from Darius Slay in Detroit despite plenty of competition at the position.Lawson brings starting experience as well as terrific speed to the secondary. He also has a total of zero interceptions in his NFL career despite numerous opportunities to come down with one. He’s not a perfect player but still can contribute in multiple ways. Here’s a look at his game.Playing through the catch pointThe play above against the Packers Lawson gets his hands on the receiver at the line and slides into a back shoulder position. He doesn’t panic when the receiver is 3 yards away from him and instead shows off his top end speed. When he gets close enough and sees the receiver begin to adjust for the catch Trayvon Mullen Jersey 2019 , the former Lions CB gets his head around for a pass break up.The 5-9, 192-pounder gets in a similar spot here against the Rams. He is in tight man coverage against Robert Woods near the top of the screen. Woods runs a “wheel route” across the formation which at first looks like a shallow cross before it turns into a deep route up the opposite sideline. Lawson doesn’t panic when he realizes he in trailing the speedy wide-receiver. Instead he shows savvy cornerback skills by playing the receivers hands through the catch point to get this pass break up.This rep from off-coverage shows Lawson’s ability to disrupt the receiver from catching the ball.Lawson stays square and maintains his outside leverage. He is in a good place to break on the skinny post from Allen Robinson and is in a spot that prevents the receiver from adjusting to the ball.Inconsistent techniqueLawson has a lot of up and down technique on film. There are plays where he uses text-book fundamentals and others where he makes clear mental mistakes. Lawson is lined up in press coverage at the bottom of the screen. He allows the receiver to get a free release by guessing instead of trusting his technique and staying square. It just so happens that the receiver runs his route right where Lawson recovers. If this was a fade route he’s on the wrong side of a highlight.Minnesota also took advantage of Lawson’s inconsistent technique in the redzone. Lawson commits two sins on this play. First he overplays his leverage by jumping outside of Adam Thielen. Second he peeks into the back field making him late to transition against the double move. Against Chicago we see Lawson get on his heels in press coverage and fail to disrupt the receivers release. He actually recovers and is in a good position, getting his head around to play the back shoulder pass. But inexplicably he turns back around when the ball is in the air forcing the referee to throw the flag for pass interference. If Lawson doesn’t make that final turn to face guard at the end of the play, he’s in good shape and this is an incompletion instead of a automatic first down.ConclusionLawson isn’t a surefire starter but he adds competition to the secondary. Expect him and Daryl Worley to battle for the starting position opposite Gareon Conley. Lawson will also get consideration in the slot where he played about half of his coverage snaps for Detroit this past season. Defensive Coordinator Guenther gains some flexibility by adding Lawson to go along with Joyner and now has a secondary where a few players can play multiple positions. Guenther asks his corners use a different press technique that what was on film above. Instead of a hard press, Oakland’s corners play a “motor” technique where they inch backwards before getting their hands of the receiver. Perhaps the change in technique can be what Lawson needs to maximize his potential. Either way, he needs to do a better job of re-routing WRs in 2019.‘Very possible’ Mike Nugent is Raiders kicker to begin season with Eddy Pineiro out with groin injury Midway through Raiders training camp, the battle between Eddy Pineiro and incumbment kicker Giogio Tavecchio ended. They let Tavecchio go in favor of veteran kicker, Mike Nugent. And thus began a new battle for the Raiders kicker spot.Even still, it appeared the job was Pineiro’s to lose. The undrafted rookie looked very good in camp and made all three attempts in the team’s first preseason game against the Lions Derek Carr Jersey White , including makes from 45 and 48 yards. Then he was lost to a groin injury and hasn’t returned. And suddenly having another proven option was a very good thing. It’s not known yet how long Pineiro’s injury will have him out. Leading to the inevitable question if the Raiders kicker heading into the season will be Mike Nugent.“Yeah, it’s possible, very possible,” Gruden said of Nugent starting the season as the Raiders kicker. “He’s (been) an 80% kicker for 13 years. I don’t know what the exact percentage is, but he’s a good kicker, he’s been a good kicker for a long time. You don’t make it in this league unless you are. He’s got the mental toughness and reliability to overcome a bad game or a bad kick. Right now he’s the leader in the clubhouse because Eddy’s not healthy.”To be specific, Nugent is an 81% field goal kicker over his career. For comparison, Sebastian Janikowski has been an 80.4% kicker over his career. Where they deviate is outside of 50 yards where Janikowski is 55% for his career, having made 55 of 100 attempts. Nugent has attempted just 29 in his 13-year career Clelin Ferrell Oakland Raiders Jersey , making 12 (41.4%).Jason Marcum from SB Nation Bengals blog Cincy Jungle said Nugent isn’t quite the picture of confidence Gruden paints him to be, but that he has made some big kicks when called upon. The former second round pick spent his first four NFL seasons with the Jets where he made 81.5% of his kicks, but made just three outside of 50 yards. Over seven years in Cincinnati he was an 80.8% kicker, going 11 for 28 outside of 50 yards. He spent part of last season in Dallas with Rich Bisaccia, where he made 7 of his 9 attempts in four games.Nugent has had four attempts in his two games kicking for the Raiders this preseason. He made kicks from 30, 31, and 32 and missed wide left from 49 yards out last week. Pineiro made 17 of his 18 attempts at Florida last season. He missed one in the season opener and then didn’t miss again. And still hasn’t. Raiders open the season in exactly two weeks. Pineiro has until then to see if that groin is healthy enough for him to go.Follow @LeviDamien

Is a premium pick on a wide receiver a good idea for the Broncos?Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY SportsIt was another “Take your case to court” day on Orange & Blue Radio, and the debate du jour was whether Broncos should spend a premium draft pick (Day 1 or Day 2) on a wide receiver.Listen to "04-08-19 Take The Case To Court" on Spreaker.Ryan Edwards was up first to make a case for going for the premium pick on a wideout. He didn’t even bother with the first round, but he definitely believes there is value to be had in rounds two or three that the Broncos should heavily consider.Arguing for guys like Marquise Brown, A.J. Brown, Hakeem Butler (Go Cyclones!), N’keal Harry or even Scotty Payne’s favorite, Deebo Samuel, Edwards claimed the Broncos need speed and aggressiveness at the position. He pointed specifically to Samuel’s 9.7 yards after catch average last year, the top among all college wide receivers. The best average among NFL wide receivers was 7.9 yards after catch average for comparison (which, of course, isn’t completely fair given the higher level of defense in the pro ranks). But perhaps most important among Edwards arguments was the need the Broncos have at the position. As good as Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton were as rookies, there was a definite drop-off in production after the Broncos traded Demaryius Thomas and lost Emmanuel Sanders to injury. Sutton and Hamilton struggled to fill in as the top receivers. Another high-end talent at the position - especially to hold once Sanders is done in Denver - is a key need for this offense to be successful.“Broncos, give yourself as many options as possible,” Edwards pleaded. “There is tons of value on Day 2.Go get your guy.”Arguing for the opposition, Andrew Mason also made a solid case, pointing out that historically in the NFL Joe Flacco Jersey , there is great wideout value on Day 3.He noted that among 32 NFL teams last season, 64 “team leaders” were players at the wide receiver position - and 30 of those (nearly half) were players who were not drafted by teams in the first three rounds. “You’re finding quality all directions,” Mason said, adding that 33 percent of all Pro Bowl wide receivers were drafted on Day 3 of their corresponding drafts and 37 percent since the merger. “And no team has milked trades, or late round picks more than the Denver Broncos at wide receiver.” For example, Mase pointed out, of the 37 Broncos in history who have made Pro Bowl or AFL All Star appearances, only 19 were drafted in the first three rounds. And of that 19, only 9 were drafted by the Broncos (the other 10 were acquired in free agency or trade).“There is quality year after year at the wide receiver position on Day 3 and even undrafted,” Mason said. “Some quality bleeds on Day 3 year after year.”‘The Honorable’ Steve Atwater was clearly impressed with both cases and had a tough time making a final decision. Once again, I won’t tell you the choice. Weigh in with your thoughts, then go listen to see if the great Ring-of-Famer agreed with you. The rising Maryland defensive back could add much needed depth and versatility to the franchise’s secondary."With the departure of several defensive backs over the past few years, the Denver Broncos made upgrading the back end of their defense a priority in free agency. John Elway didn’t disappoint, adding two of the best players available with respect to Bryce Callahan and Kareem Jackson. Even with those moves, long-term question marks in the secondary still remain. Incumbent starters at safety Will Parks and Justin Simmons are free agents at the end of next season. While the Broncos have a few intriguing options behind them, finding another safety in this year’s draft should be considered a priority. That’s why I believe the Broncos should take a look at University of Maryland product Darnell Savage Jr., who has been utilized in multiple roles in the Terrapins’ secondary and proved to be one of college football’s most energetic and high-powered defenders over the past few seasons. After spending most of his true freshman season in a reserve role, he quickly earned a starting role as a sophomore and never looked back. In his three years as a starter, he amassed 182 tackles, 9 of them for loss Bradley Chubb Jersey White , 1 sack and eight interceptions. Whether it was at either safety spot or at nickel corner, his versatility was an extreme benefit to the Terrapins’ defense. If you desire a prospect who has incredible athleticism, versatility, and a non-stop motor — Savage is someone you should be very interested in. Let’s take a deeper look at him as a prospect and where he should land during the 2019 NFL Draft.Darnell Savage Jr. — Safety — MarylandHeight: 5’11” Weight: 198 lbs.Bench Press: 11 reps | Arm Length: 31” | Hands: 9 1/8”40 Yard Dash: 4.36 | 3 Cone Drill: 7.03 | 20 Yard Shuttle: 4.14Film Room and HighlightsHart’s Scouting ReportPositives: Supremely athletic and versatile defensive back capable of playing a variety of roles for any team’s secondary. Experience playing in zone and in off-man coverage at both safety positions and nickel corner. Is the epitome of a playmaker — defending 13 passes, amassing 8 interceptions and scoring two touchdowns defensively in his career with the Terrapins. Possess premier instincts, football intelligence and ball-hawking skills are evident on tape. Fluid hips, great short area quickness and closing burst allow him to be ‘sticky’ in coverage. Willing defender in run support whose motor is always revving at 100 percent. Three-year starter who is praised by his coaches and fellow teammates for his work ethic and quality play on the field. Negatives: Size is less than desirable which may be an inhibiting factor against larger receiving targets at the pro level. Heat-seeking missile mentality as a defender causes him to take some poor angles leading to missed tackles. Can occasionally get caught peeking in coverage causing him to get beat on intermediate and deep routes.Overall: Top 50 prospect. Savage sticks out on tape due to his ferocious style of play and top-tier athleticism, though his ‘hair on fire’ mentality can lead to detrimental play outcomes. Nevertheless, his ability to play multiple roles boost his overall value for teams looking for chess piece options in their secondary units. If he can become more disciplined as a player, he has the ability to become a stalwart defender on the back end in the National Football League.Does Darnell Savage Jr. make sense for the Broncos? The Broncos upgraded their secondary this free agency period, but as mentioned earlier, starting safeties Parks and Simmons are both free agents at the end of this season. With that in mind, it would be wise for the franchise to seek a versatile prospect like Savage Jr. in this year’s draft. It may not be one of the team’s top three needs come the end of April, but it’s certainly a long-term question mark.Head Coach Vic Fangio stated earlier in the offseason that tackling was a non-negotiable trait with his players — which is an area that the highly-touted Maryland product needs to work on. Despite that, Savage offers the Broncos tremendous flexibility in the defensive backfield and would provide them with another dynamic option who can bolster their secondary immediately and for the long-term. If available at the Broncos’ second-round selection, his high-ceiling and versatility may be too good to pass up, despite other pressing needs.

This signing follows agreements made with third-round draft pick Diontae Johnson and fourth-round selection Benny Snell Jr. announced earlier in the day, and deals signed by sixth-round picks Sutton Smith and Isaiah Buggs on Tuesday. And while the terms of their deals have yet to be reveled, it should be expected that the numbers will closely match the figures projected by OverTheCap.com ahead of the draft. With so many questions to be answered on the need to trade up or reaches or how a player will actually play...BTSC takes bold statements and labels them as Fact or Fiction. Lets take a gander.Devin Bush needs to be a Week One starter to justify trading up.FictionBush is a strong candidate to start the Steelers’ opener in New England, but it is not absolutely necessary. The thought process is that Bush will probably seize the spot, but it all depends on how exactly they view Mark Barron. My guess is that the newly-minted No. 55 is starting in prime time Jon Bostic Jersey , but he’ll see a lot of time even if he doesn’t.Comparisons of Diontae Johnson to Antonio Brown are fair to put on the third rounder.FictionIf Johnson is statistically half as good as AB, you have a great selection. Yes, he is of comparable body dimensions and comes from the MAC. He also possesses good hands and decent route running ability, plus a lot of fans never heard of him. However Cameron Sutton Jersey , let this kid be his own player. He doesn’t need the comparisons or pressure to justify his selection. Let this all play out.Justin Layne should be the one to break the streak of underwhelming picks at the cornerback position.FactThe Michigan State CB had First Round grades from many teams, but the whole position group dropped with only Deandre Baker going at the end of the First. Layne is 6’2” with good coverage skills as a bump-and-run corner. He could be next man up and will likely start at times late in the season. There is a strong opinion among fans and “experts” that Layne could be a draft steal.Lack of size will sink Sutton Smith FictionRyan Shazier, at 6’1” and 229 lbs., is merely an inch taller and four pounds lighter than Smith at 6’ and 233. Smith plays with a ton of heart and sacked QBs 15 times with 26.5 tackles-for-loss in 2018. He had 14 and 30 respectively in 2017. The Norther Illinois product will have to earn his way on via special teams Carnell Lake Jersey , but I’d bet on him to do something special when he does.Seven of the nine selections make the 53-man rosterFactKevin Colbert got this one right. The top four selections of the Steelers (Bush, Johnson, Layne and Snell Jr.) should very well make the roster with ease. With the lack of depth at TE and Bucky Hodges having been released, Zach Gentry should be the TE3 on the 53. The next four guys have battles in camp Ryan Switzer Jersey , but I can see Buggs push past McCullers and Sutton Smith get the nod over “Dirty Red” Matakevich because of ST play, regardless of his being an ILB or OLB. Ulysses Gilbert and Derwin Gray may need to start out on the Practice Squad.Agree? Awesome. Disagree? Fine, Agree to disagree? Cool with that too. Lets discuss in the comment section and lets welcome our new Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cornerbacks Gareon Conley and Leon Hall couldn’t tackle him inbounds and McManus came on to give the Broncos (2-0) their first lead. The Raiders (0-2) lost despite a stellar outing by Derek Carr, who completed 29 of 32 passes for 288 yards and a score four days after Gruden called him out for passing up throws to Amari Cooper in Oakland’s opener.Cooper caught 10 passes for 116 yards Sunday. The Broncos trailed 19-7 late in the third quarter before McManus hit a 39-yarder and Keenum scored on a 1-yard keeper on fourth down with 5:58 left.Denver’s defense held and the Broncos got the ball back at their 20 with 1:58 left. A holding call pushed them back 10 yards but Keenum hit Emmanuel Sanders for 21 yards and Jake Butt for 14.On second-and-10 from the Raiders 44 with 18 seconds left, Keenum found Patrick, who turned upfield but finally raced out of bounds on the Oakland sideline, setting up McManus’ game-winner.The Raiders took a 12-0 lead at halftime after holding the Broncos to just two first downs. The Broncos blew two golden opportunities. One came when linebacker Todd Davis was called for holding, negating a strip sack by Von Miller and Domata Peko‘s fumble recovery at the Oakland 20 in the first quarter.Denver’s initial first down came when Phillip Lindsay burst through the line for a 53-yard gain, but Keenum’s pass to Butt was intercepted by Rashaan Melvin at the Raiders 1.The Raiders had to settle for field goals twice after Miller blew up plays .First, he sliced through the line to dump Marshawn Lynch for a 4-yard loss from the Denver 4, and then he sacked Carr on third-and-3 from the Broncos 21. Mike Nugent‘s field goals of 26 and 46 yards gave Oakland a 6-0 lead. The Raiders made it 12-0 on Lynch’s 1-yard dive late in the second quarter but Shaq Barrett blocked the extra point.Denver’s defense was on the field for more than 20 minutes in the first half of the hottest home game in team history. Here are the three biggest in my opinion:Are the coaches willing to go into the season with only two QBs on the 53-man roster? So this would mean that the team trades or releases Paxton Lynch. While it is uncommon, it is not strange to do so. There were 13 of 32 NFL teams last season that begun the year with only two QBs on the 53-man active roster: MIA, NE, BAL, CIN, HOU, TEN Cheap Juwann Winfree Jersey , PHI, WAS, DET, GNB, ATL, TB and SEA. If the Broncos enter the season with Chad Kelly is the only other QB on the team besides Case Keenum, that would be putting a lot of faith in a QB that has never taken an NFL snap as the #2 QB. Did any team do this last year? The answer is NO, with two limited exceptions. In almost every situation last season where a team started the season with only two QBs on the active roster, the backup was a guy with at least some NFL game experience: MIA - Matt Moore; NE - Jimmy Garappolo; BAL - Ryan Mallett; CIN - A.J. McCarron; HOU - Tom Savage; TEN - Matt Cassel; WAS - Colt McCoy; PHI - Nick Foles; ATL - Matt Schaub; TB - Ryan Fitzpatrick; SEA - Austin Davis. All of those second stringers had at least some starting experience. The only two teams that rolled with guys similar to Chad Kelly as the #2 QB were DET with Jake Rudock and GNB with Brett Hundley (who had thrown 10 NFL passes in career prior to 2017). Do we just keep Paxton Lynch as the #3 QB? Generally you want your #2 to be the veteran who could be minimally competent if you are forced, by injury, to start him. That is why you see so many journeyman vets hanging around the league. The are at least known quantities who have started NFL games and maybe even “won” a few of them. Paxton Lynch has yet to show that he is even a minimally competent NFL QB, so keeping as the #3 option Isaac Yiadom Jersey , given his complete lack of development, would be a waste of a very valuable roster spot. Who is available and who might be available as a veteran to bring in? There are currently 118 NFL QBs on 90-man rosters. There were only 83 at the start of the 2017 season (not counting QBs on practice squads), so there are about to be roughly 35 QBs who are unemployed. There are also veterans who are not currently on 90-man rosters like Ryan Mallett, Matt Moore, Scott Tolzein, Mark Sanchez, Kellen Clemens, T.J. Yates and Josh Johnson. All of those QBs have started NFL games; some have even “won” playoff games. In case you are interested here is the current QB depth chart for every NFL team:So how do you see this playing out? For what it’s worth, Case Keenum is listed as a medium injury risk. He had a ligament problem in the thumb of his throwing hand in 2013 and he got concussed in 2015 (but remained in the game).

ALAMEDA Ryan Switzer Jersey , Calif. (AP) — to acquire prolific but disgruntled receiver Antonio Brown from the Pittsburgh Steelers and will give him the lucrative new contract he wanted.A person with direct knowledge of the trade told The Associated Press that the Raiders finalized the deal with the Steelers and will give Brown a new three-year contract worth $50.125 million instead of the $38.925 million he was owed by Pittsburgh. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal can’t be completed until the new league year starts Wednesday.Pro Football Talk first reported the deal and says Pittsburgh will get third and fifth-round draft picks from Oakland. The trade makes final what became a very messy and very public divorce between Brown and the team that helped turn the sixth-round pick into arguably the greatest wide receiver of his generation. It also gives the Raiders a high-profile addition for second-year coach Jon Gruden after trading away two of the team’s biggest stars last year in edge rusher Khalil Mack and receiver Amari Cooper.Oakland got extra first-round picks in those trades but didn’t need to give up any of its four picks in the top 35 in the upcoming draft to acquire Brown, who has topped 100 receptions and 1,200 yards receiving in each of the past six seasons. The Raiders have had only one player reach those marks in a single season in franchise history, with Hall of Famer Tim Brown accomplishing the feat in 1997.Brown now gives quarterback Derek Carr his biggest offensive weapon since entering the league in 2014 and the Raiders a legitimate star before they move to Las Vegas for the 2020 season. The Raiders’ top wide receiver last season was Jordy Nelson, who had just 63 catches for 739 yards.Gruden has always admired Brown from his time as a broadcaster and had nothing but praise for the receiver before the teams played last December.“He’s the hardest working man, I think, in football,” Gruden said. “Hardest working player I’ve ever seen practice. I’ve seen Jerry Rice, I’ve seen a lot of good ones Hines Ward Jersey , but I put Antonio Brown at the top. If there are any young wideouts out there, I’d go watch him practice. You figure out yourself why he’s such a good player.”Brown was obviously pleased with the development, posting a picture of himself in a Raiders uniform and a video with Carr at a Pro Bowl with the caption “Love at first sight ” on his Twitter account.Brown is no stranger to drawing headlines for both his prolific on-field production and his off-the-field antics, including livestreaming from the locker room after a playoff win over Kansas City in January 2017 and getting pulled over for doing 100 mph in the northern Pittsburgh suburbs last fall. The sometimes tumultuous relationship between the only player in NFL history with six straight 100-catch seasons and the franchise that made him the highest-paid player at his position in the spring of 2017 reached a breaking point in late December.Steelers coach Mike Tomlin benched Brown during the regular-season finale against Cincinnati after the wide receiver went radio silent in the final 48 hours before the game. Brown arrived in a fur coat, hung out for a half and then disappeared from view until well after his teammates had cleaned out their lockers following a 9-6-1 finish that left Pittsburgh on the outside of the playoffs for the first time since 2013.When Brown did resurface, he began engaging in a series of increasingly antagonistic acts designed to expedite his departure. He went on Instagram with former Steelers linebacker James Harrison during Tomlin’s season wrap-up press conference. He decried quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s “owner’s mentality” and chastised Tomlin for disciplining him in Week 17, no matter that Tomlin and the rest of the organization had spent years downplaying Brown’s off-the-field eccentricities.Brown officially requested a trade last month, but not before photo-shopping his familiar No. 84 onto a San Francisco 49ers jersey or using his hyperactive social media feeds to indicate not only his displeasure with the Steelers but also his interest in signing a new deal with whomever should acquire his services.Even with his benching in the finale, Brown caught 104 passes for 1 Isaiah Buggs Pittsburgh Steelers Jersey ,297 yards and a franchise-record and NFL-high 15 touchdowns. His last performance in a Pittsburgh uniform might have been one of his best, a 14-reception, 185-yard, two-touchdown masterpiece in a road loss to New Orleans.A week later, the player who once said he wanted to retire a Steeler didn’t even suit up against the Bengals. Just over two months later, he now finds himself heading to the second act of a career that’s on a Hall of Fame trajectory and the Steelers have a hole at receiver and more than $21 million in dead money on their salary cap. Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak wanted to become the head coach of the Broncos. He’s instead accepting the same job in Denver that he held in Pittsburgh. The lateral move becomes the latest sign of trouble for a Steelers team that has endured one nagging question after another in recent weeks.A free agent, given that his contract had expired, Munchak has the ability to go wherever he wants. Ed Bouchette of the writes that Munchak’s relocation “probably” was influenced by a desire to be closer to his daughter and granddaughter. Regardless, Munchak has chosen to leave the Steelers and to walk into a situation that could get a little awkward Isaiah Buggs Pittsburgh Steelers Jersey , given that he was a finalist for the job coach Vic Fangio filled, necessarily giving Munchak even greater juice in the organization that the next offensive coordinator will have and possibly making some of the players wonder how the pecking order will be unpacked. The move comes not long after quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made a public plea to retain Munchak.鈥淚 pray that fans write as many letters as they can to Mr. [Art] Rooney to keep Coach Munchak around,鈥?Roethlisberger said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 such a special coach. When the linemen are happy and love to play for their coach, they play better.鈥滱nd now Mike Tomlin will have to find a new offensive line coach, at a time when Tomlin has plenty of other headaches as the offseason begins. It won’t be easy; Munchak helped transform the offensive line into one of the best in the league. If the offensive line regresses, Tomlin’s task will get a lot taller for 2019.

In Washington Will Center On Curl Routes This year I had the chance to ask Football Outsiders a few questions on behalf of Hogs Haven. Football Outsiders provides in depth stats that you can’t find anywhere else. There signature metric is DVOA which not only takes into account statistics but it measures efficiency and accounts for circumstance. They don’t just aim to through out numbers though their goal is to provide objective writing and analysis backed by their research to improve and change that way football is written about. Their work has been featured in Sports Illustrated Shawn Lauvao Jersey , ESPN, SB Nation, CBS Sports, and Bleacher Report. You can check out all of their products, and the 2018 Almanac here. Here is today’s question and answer:Hogs Haven: Kirk Cousins is gone and Alex Smith is in DC what does the Redskins offense and Smith specifically have to do to replicate Smith’s career best year and succeed overall?Football Outsiders: Smith got some press for throwing more deep passes in 2017, but that was somewhat overblown. In 2016, he finished next to last among qualifying quarterbacks with an average depth of target of 6.9 yards. In 2017, that average climbed to 8.0 yards, but was still just 27th. (Kirk Cousins ranked ninth in 2016 and 24th in 2017, so Smith’s style should be a bit of a shift for Washington fans.) According to Sports Info Solutions’ charting, Smith’s most common throw last year was on curl routes -- he had twice as many throws on curls as on any other type of route. After that, most of his value came on go/fly, deep cross, and post routes -- he went 24-for-43 on those routes (56 percent completion rate) for 775 yards, six touchdowns, and only one interception. A 44th throw resulted in 20 yards on a DPI. That’s only about three of those passes per game, but he usually made them count. His worst pattern, by far, was the out route, where he went 25-of-43 for 194 yards (just 4.5 yards per pass!) with no touchdowns. We tend to think that deep balls are a measure of arm strength, but really it’s those sideline routes -- where the ball has to travel a long ways and hit a tight window without giving the defense time to react -- where arm strength is most critical, and that’s where Smith was at his worst last year. The TL;DR version of all this: Washington needs to hit on those curl routes that are a staple of Smith’s game; they need to take advantage of limited opportunities for big plays down the field, especially on throws down the middle; and they must avoid those sideline routes, where Smith’s weak arm can be exposed. Thanks to Vincent Verhei who you can follow on twitter @FO_VVerhei 鈥? I found the above numbers fascinating regarding Smith’s route success. While I don’t necessarily agree he has a ‘weak’ arm its obvious Alex is not a gunslinger nor a QB who can deliver 60 yard bombs. I do think its important for the offense to be adjusted to what he is comfortable with which includes those curls/comeback routes as well as the deep post. And if the above numbers are any indication I hope he stays away from delivering those out routes! You can pick up a copy of Football Outsiders 2018 Almanac here Thursday Night Game:Houston Texans:- This figures to be a lower scoring affair tonight so if you have a decent secondary QB play sitting DeShaun Watson might not be a bad call. The Dolphins corners are really good Dexter Manley Jersey , but that shouldn’t stop you from using DeAndre Hopkins this week. Hopkins may not have the upside he usually does, but he should still be a quality option. Will Fuller is a bit less certain of a play this week and ideally you will have other options to use instead. The Texans play of the night though is RB Lamar Miller. The Dolphins have been pretty bad versus the run this season, and Miller is a home favorite running back. He has a good chance for over 100 yards rushing and at least one rushing TD.Miami Dolphins:- There is not much to like with the Dolphins this week as they are a banged up team on road, playing on the short week. Miami’s offense is questionable to begin with and now they are without two of their top receivers in Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson out tonight. Jakeem Grant and Danny Amendola have both been okay, but it’s tough to count on these players tonight. Brock Osweiler hasn’t been as bad as people thought, but this is not a great spot for him facing a Texans defense with some elite pass rushers. The one interesting Dolphins play is Kenyan Drake. He is still splitting some work with Frank Gore, but Drake is getting most of the passing game work. The Dolphins are likely to be behind tonight meaning Drake should be on the field more. There has even been some talk given the injuries at WR that Drake could run some routes out wide this week. In a PPR format Drake is very much in play and could have a sneaky big game.Quarterbacks:Start ‘em:Andy Daltonalton burned fantasy owners last week in a pretty good spot, but he’s worth firing up in your line-ups again. The Buccaneers have one of the worst pass defenses in the league and Cincy should look to get their offense on track this week through the air.Jameis Winston:-Winston is almost a lock for 300 plus passing yards this week and should have a couple passing TDs. The Buccaneers can’t run the football effectively and are having tremendous success through the air. Winston has a safe floor due to his volume and his ceiling is really high as well. Mitch Trubisky:-Trubisky had a bad real life game last week, but another great fantasy week. He’s had over 300 yards passing and at least 2 passing TDs each of the last three weeks. In addition he’s helped himself on the ground rushing for 180 yards and 1 TD in that time frame. The Bears might not need to throw as much this week so the ceiling might not be as high, but I’d still expect a solid fantasy game from Trubisky. Sit ‘em:Cam Newton:-Now Newton is a must play most weeks, and this week if you have no other options you still keep him in this week. If you can pivot though, this is a week to sit Newton against a really good Ravens defense. Baltimore has slowed down a number of top QBs this year, so it’s likely Newton’s ceiling this week will be capped. Baker Mayfield:-Mayfield is playing in one of the highest scoring games this week, but he’s hit a bit of a rookie wall of late. Some of it has to do with the lack of weapons on the Browns, and those that are on the field have had a number of key drops. The Steelers defense does have plenty of weak points, but this doesn’t feel like a big week for Mayfield. He probably won’t kill your fantasy line-ups, but he probably won’t put up big points either. C.J. Beathard:-A couple weeks ago when these two teams met Beathard had a strong fantasy game throwing for almost 350 yards and 2 TDs. While it’s tempting to go back to Beathard this week for a streaming option, it’s likely he won’t come close to matching that output this game. The 49ers are starting to find more success on the ground and the Cardinals can’t stop the run. If San Francisco gets ahead expect them to feature their backs and not give Beathard a lot of opportunities. Eli Manning/Alex Smith:-This figures to be a slow game with only moderate scoring. Eli Manning has great weapons, but he’s playing poorly and not get any help from his OL. He’s facing a Redskins defense that has shut down everyone not named Drew Brees. Alex Smith has struggled to start the year and isn’t likely to breakout of that slump this week. The Giants defense is getting weaker with their recent trades, but Smith probably won’t need to throw alot this week. Even if Smith does have a good real life football game, he’s unlikely to have a strong fantasy football week. Running backs:Start ‘em:Adrian Petersoneterson continues to play well this season and the Giants just traded away their best run stuffer. Right now it’s clear the Redskins offense runs through Peterson, so he should get touches early and often this week. If the Redskins can get the lead, Peterson will continue to be featured throughout the game. He doesn’t get much passing game work so in full point PPR he’s not a great option, but he’s a solid fill in if you have guys on byes.Kerryon Johnson:-Johnson is coming off a huge week and could be in line for another strong game versus the Seahawks. The Lions may finally have some balance to their offense and should continue to feature Johnson more and more. Detroit still splits work and gives Blount goal line carries Cole Holcomb Washington Redskins Jersey , but Johnson should have enough usage to have a good week.Phillip Lindsay:-Lindsay has been outplaying fellow rookie 3rd rd pick Royce Freeman and it’s possible that Freeman doesn’t play this week. Lindsay has shown explosiveness as both a runner and a receiver and should get a lot of work versus a Chiefs defense that has struggled to cover running backs.Sit ‘em:Doug Martin:-With Marshawn Lynch out a lot of people will want to play Martin, but that looks like fools gold at this point. Martin hasn’t shown much this year, and the Raiders are a team that figures to be down this game. Martin probably won’t be on the field for most of the passing work, making him likely to disappoint this week (also he will likely disappoint when he is on the field).Latavius Murray:-Murray has had back-to-back good games filling in for Dalvin Cook, but this week fantasy owners should pivot away. The Saints aren’t allowing any running backs to succeed and this likely will be a shootout type game. Murray has very limited passing game involvement so he’s likely to have few touches this week. Maybe he vultures 2 TDs, but outside of that he’s unlikely to have a strong fantasy day.Nick Chubb:-Chubb had a solid first week as the Browns top running back last week, but he faces a tough Steelers run defense in what could be a higher scoring game. Chubb isn’t highly involved in the passing game, so he could be game scripted out pretty early in this game.Wide Receivers:Start ‘em:DeSean Jackson, Tyler Boyd, Chris Godwin:-Obviously A.J. Green and Mike Evans are the top plays in this game, but the secondary plays are worth your time as well. This game has real shootout potential so expect 650-800 total passing yards in this game and the potential for 5-8 combined passing TDs. Some of that should get filtered to these three players making them all viable options. T.Y. Hilton:-Hilton only had 4 catches last week, but two went for TDs. With the Colts facing off versus a bad Raiders secondary, Hilton could be in line for a big week as Indy looks to get back into the playoff picture for the AFC South. Jordy Nelson:-With no Amari Cooper, Nelson takes over as the Raiders top receiver. He was getting good usage prior to the trade so expect him to see 10+ targets this week. Nelson has a decent ceiling versus a Colts defense that limits big plays, but still has some holes in their secondary.Anthony Miller:-If you are looking for an under the radar guy look at Bears rookie Anthony Miller. Miller missed a couple of weeks with injury, but bounced back with a solid week against the Patriots. The Jets have been killed by slot receivers this year, which should give Miller a pretty nice outlook.Sit ‘em:Alshon Jeffery:-Jeffery has had a good year so far and is playing his best football in the past couple of seasons, now though he faces a Jaguars corner group that is still among the best in the league. They aren’t as shutdown as they were a year ago, but Jacksonville’s corners still are a strong group. Jeffery’s upside is limited this week and it is a good week to avoid him.Devin Funchess:-Funchess has had a good start to the year and has been Cam Newton’s best weapon outside of Christian McCaffrey. This week though is not a good match-up as the Ravens have really slowed down most receivers they faced this year. Funchess will likely get a few catches, but his chances for anything close to 100 yards is pretty low. Sterling Shepard:-Shepard is coming off a huge breakout game, but he faces a tough Redskins secondary this week. Shepard is likely to disappoint this week in a game that probably won’t be high scoring. He may max out somewhere in the 5 catch 40-55 yards type of week.

SANTA CLARA Quinton Bell Jersey 2019 , Calif. (AP) —and the prospect of a full season of Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco put optimism at a peak in the Bay Area heading into this NFL season. That feeling went far beyond the partisan backers of the Raiders and 49ers and extended to the league and television network bosses who decided to put the final Battle of the Bay before the Raiders leave town for Las Vegas in 2020 on Thursday night football. That battle has quickly turned into a Bay Area Bummer. The game between the Raiders (1-6) and the 49ers (1-7) this week could be the worst prime-time matchup in NFL history. There have been 784 prime-time games played in the NFL on Nov. 1 or later and the .133 combined winning percentage for Oakland and San Francisco is the worst of all of them, lowering the bar set Dec. 18, 2014, when Tennessee visited Jacksonville in a battle of 2-12 teams.“I wish the game had two 8-1 or 7-1 teams playing in it,” Gruden said. “Hopefully someday soon you’ll see a game like that, but this is still going to be fun for the fans and both teams.”Fun is not the word either team would use to describe this season, which has seen both the Raiders and 49ers blow three fourth-quarter leads, deal with several debilitating injuries, and pile up losses. While few considered either team to be Super Bowl caliber heading into the year, there was hope both could compete for the playoffs. Now the only competition is to determine which team is worse and has the inside track at the No. 1 overall draft pick. The Raiders’ season turned sour before it even started with the decision to trade holdout star pass rusher Khalil Mack to Chicago just one week before the start of the regular season for a package of draft picks. A defense that came into the season with enough question marks if Mack did play has generated no pressure and offered little resistance to opposing offenses.Oakland lost the first three games despite never trailing for a second of the first three quarters as quarterback Derek Carr struggled to adjust to Gruden’s offense and the older players Gruden signed in the offseason failed to deliver. An overtime win in Week 4 over Cleveland provided a brief respite but the Raiders have lost three straight since, getting outscored by 54 points during that span as the season is deteriorating quickly.Adding to the drama were reports questioning the toughness and leadership of Carr, public complaints from players about how they’re being used and the trade of No. 1 receiver Amari Cooper to Dallas for a first-round pick. Now a team that won 12 games just two years ago behind a young core of Carr Cheap Quinton Bell Jersey , Cooper and Mack, has regressed back to where the franchise was in 2014 when the Raiders lost the first 10 games of Carr’s career.“I’ve been here before,” Carr said. “I know how to get out of it and it’s not by pointing fingers. It’s not by getting with your buddy and taking trash. It’s about getting together with your buddies and figuring things out, asking your teammates what can I do better, what should I do. That’s how we fix it. I believe that we have guys like that.”The Niners have lacked the drama of their neighbors but the results have been no better. San Francisco overcame a 1-10 start last year under first-year coach Kyle Shanahan to win five straight to end the season after Garoppolo was inserted into the lineup following a midseason trade from New England.Garoppolo was rewarded with a $137.5 million contract in the offseason and the 49ers were considered an up-and-coming team worthy of five prime-time matchups. The team was dealt a setback a week before the season when running back Jerick McKinnon, the team’s top free-agent acquisition in the offseason, blew out his knee in practice.Garoppolo then went down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 3 and the Niners haven’t won since, taking a six-game losing streak into this week’s contest.“Yeah, we’ve been dealt a tough hand with some of the injuries we have and some of the things that we’ve been going through, but that doesn’t mean we should be 1-7,” Shanahan said. “Those games, we make a few different plays Tyrell Williams Jersey , and I’m talking one to three plays, still wouldn’t feel great about our record but I’d feel better than I do now.”San Francisco blew late leads in losses to Green Bay and Arizona and also had a chance at a comeback against the Chargers thwarted by a late interception by backup C.J. Beathard.Perhaps the most concerning part is the regression by several young players who were expected to be foundation pieces with defensive tackle Solomon Thomas, linebacker Reuben Foster, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and safety Adrian Colbert all struggling with their play and health. Now San Francisco is just trying to salvage any positives in the second half of the season.“We’re fighting. Unfortunately, we’re not getting the results,” cornerback Richard Sherman said. “These have been some of the toughest losses I’ve seen.” Rookie minicamp is in the past and OTA’s are coming up next week. Miami Dolphins right tackle Ja’Waun James Justin Hollins Jersey 2019 , according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.James has agreed to a four-year deal worth $52 million with $32 million in guaranteed money. James will make an average of $13 million a year. The deal will make James the highest paid right tackle in the league, surpassing Lane Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles and his $11.25 million a year average.James has started all 62 games he’s appeared in over five years in the NFL with the Dolphins. He missed eight games in 2017 and nine games in 2015. He has never made a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team, but right tackles tend to lose out in the voting for such accolades to their left side counterparts.James was the 19th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft by Miami. He will take the place of Jared Veldheer at right tackle for Denver. Veldheer is an unrestricted free agent. Not a thing. He had his contract signed and sealed Coty Sensabaugh Jersey , so he did not care one bit who the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted. Barron is set to make $3.875 million this year whether you like it or not. He gets another $2.875 million in 2020 just for signing that lil dotted line in 2019. Does not matter if he is on the roster or not. Not a chance he will be in 2020.Barron is not a safety. Let us get that out of the way. He is a converted safety. Generally converting todifferent position in the NFL does not bode well. So what is Barron? Does not matter what he really is. Unlike Morgan Burnett Pittsburgh is going to use him as a 3-4 linebacker and dime linebacker. Not a Big nickel or big safety. The Steelers caved to Steelers fans wishes and finally after years and years of fans begging they pulled the trigger. The team did not care that the starting positions at inside linebacker were already occupied by high valued players. The team still went with one of the best pound for pound players in the draft. Years past, management was fine with ignoring the position while an aging Lawrence Timmons held one side and an up-and-coming stud Ryan Shazier held the other. The Steelers allowed Timmons to walk away with a truckload of cash and left Pittsburgh with Vince Williams and Ryan Shazier in his wake. We all know the story with Shazier and how the ILB position has gone since then. Sean Spence made the best of his opportunity of stepping off the sofa and onto the gridiron. Most Steelers fans wish he would have stayed on the sofa and ate Cheetos instead of floundering against Leonard Fournette. I would tell ya how mediocre VW is, but anyone who watched a game from last season knows that already. (Watch the Carolina Panthers game.) You would have seen him pull off his bull rush special. Where his value lies is with the little green dot. Yup, that one-trick pony has a special task that kept him on the field for more snaps then Stephon Tuitt last season. He has a green dot on his helmet which means he brings in the defensive plays and changes the alignments. How does a rookie supplant that? How does Bush see the field over VW?That is easy. Tomlin tells the 17th highest paid ILB in the league he is now the highest-paid backup in the league. Barron raises his hand and asks his role. Tomlin looks him square in the face and asks, “I do not understand how an expensive mediocre vet sees the field.” The media gets wind and the boards are filled with hate. Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau is long gone and rookies start out of the gate in Steeler Nation. Who sits so Bush can play? Williams with his horrid contract and the green dot is unlikely. Baron has never been a defensive captain Franco Harris Jersey , so it is unlikely he is the man on the field in nickel situations even with his safety background. Is Bush the second man up with the green dot or do the Steelers go against their stripes and pick another position? Because of the horrid restructure of VW, ($9 million guaranteed) the Steelers are stuck with him for at least two more years. Barron will never see his $8.125 million salary in 2020 he should walk away with a cool $2.876 million for not playing a single down in 2020. What happens if Barron returns to 2016 form in 2019? What is Bush’s role? How does Bush see the field this season? The water is muddied for two years unless moves are made and the Steelers eat cap space. General manager Kevin Colbert had to have a road map already planned out to grab an inside linebacker early. So what exactly was the need for Barron with a capable 46 game starter in Jon Bostic sitting in the wings? Not a chance the team pays Barron $8 million in 2020 for him to be a cheerleader. Bush will earn $3.4 million and $4.3 million in the next two seasons and $11.7 million over the next four years. Bush is a solid college ILB. Can he transition to the pros? Is there a spot for him this season let alone next season? Is he worthy of the Steelers to swap first rounders, give up a second this year and a third next year? Will his presence negate the holes at tight end and safety this season? Doubtful. Scouts have favorably compared Johnson to other small-school cornerbacks like the Falcons’ Robert Alford and the Jets’ Buster Skrine. They think that Johnson is a tough defender and built to be a nickelback, and will have to compete as a slot corner to make an NFL roster.Lance Zeurlein: The self-titled “Louisiana Pimp Dog” is a four-year starter and boundary cornerback whose ball skills and instincts helped him thrive against less talented opponents. Johnson is a tough evaluation because his ball skills are so tempting, but he lacks classic click-and-close man cover traits and he may not be a clean fit as a slot cornerback. at half time of Raiders vs 49ers game week 9 After all the anger of Terrell Owens turning down his invitation to attend the Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremony in Canton Ohio Jack Tatum Jersey , the recently enshrined receiver will still get the rest of his honors. Among those honors is receiving his ‘Ring of Excellence’ which is handed out to all living Hall of Fame enshrinees. The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced they will be giving Owens his ring at halftime of the Raiders vs 49ers Thursday night game in San Francisco week 9. Owens played the first eight years of his career with the 49ers. That’s where he first was named All Pro — which he was named three straight years with the 49ers and five times in his career — and had his two best seasons as a pro. We’ll see if he accepts the invitation to this ceremony. What I find interesting about all the people who were fightin’ mad about Owens refusing to show up for the ceremony in Canton, and his receiving a ring now, is Ken Stabler was never given either opportunity. They didn’t enshrine him until right after he died. And it took the Senior Committee to do it. And since he was not here to accept it, his family did not receive the Ring of Excellence either. So, all these Hall of Fame committee members can save their anger about a player not showing up for their ceremony. None of them gave a damn about Stabler getting the shaft for so many years and therefore not given the option of accepting the honor while he was alive.Follow @LeviDamien Raiders News FMIA: 2019 Draft Scenes—Agony In Jersey, Making [Stuff] Up In Arizona and High Drama In The Raiders Room – ProFootballTalkThe 2019 NFL Draft, as told through scenes from the Raiders..."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Raiders StoriesScheduleRosterStatsYahoo Raiders NewsYahoo Raiders Team PageYahoo Raiders ReportYahoo Raiders Depth ChartYahoo Raiders TransactionsYahoo Raiders PhotosOdds About Masthead Community Guidelines StubHub ✕Silver Mining 4/29: Raiders wanted to trade back from 4th overall but nobody called with any offersNew,152commentsPDTShareTweetShareShareSilver Mining 4/29: Raiders wanted to trade back from 4th overall but nobody called with any offersTrevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY SportsRaiders News FMIA: 2019 Draft Scenes—Agony In Jersey, Making [Stuff] Up In Arizona and High Drama In The Raiders Room – ProFootballTalkThe 2019 NFL Draft Marcus Allen Jersey , as told through scenes from the Raiders draft room; draft pick explanations from Arizona, Denver, New York; and more.Raiders wanted to trade down from No. 4, but the phone never rang – ProFootballTalkBecause the media lacked the benefit of a Mike Mayock to spend multiple weeks singing the praises of defensive end Clelin Ferrell, few expected Ferrell to possibly be off the board at No. 4.NFL Draft: Under scrutiny, Raiders Mike Mayock used to dish it himselfEx-Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome to new Raiders GM Mike Mayock who left TV: "... having an opinion is a hell of a lot easier than making a decision."Raiders' Mike Mayock Says He Made Right Decision to Send Scouts Home After Leak | Bleacher Report | Latest News, Videos and HighlightsOakland Raidersgeneral manager Mike Mayock opened up on his decision to jettison the team's scouting staff before the 2019NFLdraft, telling NBC Sports'Peter Kingit was the ...2019 NFL Draft grades: How Mel Kiper Jr. views Raiders' nine picks | NBCS Bay AreaESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. likes the talent the Raiders added in the draft, but he believes they could have maximized value better.Raiders DE Maxx Crosby named Oakland’s biggest draft day stealRaiders DE Maxx Crosby named Oakland's biggest draft day stealAFC WestLos Angeles Chargers’ third-round pick was just as surprised as fansThe Los Angeles Chargers' third-round pick was just as surprised as fans.NFL Draft Grades: Experts mostly positive about Chargers selections - Bolts From The BlueThe 2019 NFL Draft has come and gone. Brandon Marshall of the Oakland Raiders hopes to see his new team take down his old team in the Denver Broncos in Week 1. Brandon Marshall dreams of Raiders revenge over Broncos on opening night“I daydream about it every day,” Marshall said on NFL Network this week. ”Every day, man. I can’t wait. It’s not going to take me long to see my old teammates, see my old organization, you know, I can’t wait. I think it’s going to be a helluva game. I see us winning. I went back to Denver not too long ago and I told some of those guys that we were going to beat them.”Since joining the Oakland Raiders as a free agent, as reported in the NBC Sports Bay Area article from Saturday, former Denver Bronco Brandon Marshall spends a portion of each day daydreaming about his former team. Can you blame him? After winning Super Bowl 50 as contributor to one of the most dominant defenses the NFL has ever seen, it has to be rough to realize that he’s no longer a part of it. Sure, he’s talked to former teammates and to SOME of them he’s foretasted a Raiders win, but that, of course, leaves the question why he didn’t tell ALL of them. We know why. He knows that as a Raider winning any games in 2019 is going to be a tall order, especially against Vic Fangio’s reinvented and reinvigorated Broncos. Why focus on Denver? Let’s be honest, when Marshall looks around that locker room, I’m sure he’s all smiles, but deep down he’s seeing the tire-fire waiting to happen like the rest of us. Let’s start at the top. Mike Mayock, a television personality with zero front office experience and three years of pro ball experience, one with the Toronto Argonauts, turned in what many experts claimed a “Raiders-like draft,” exchanging their bevy of picks for lackluster reaches in the early rounds. Jon Gruden will enter his second year (of his second term) as Raiders coach. Or you could call it his first year of not giving up on his city, players Domata Peko Jersey , and team like he did in 2018. When the going got tough, Gruden called it a season in week 3. It’s much more comfortable to lose a ton of games when he could claim he was doing it on purpose. Getting the team going again after intentionally taking the gas out of it last year isn’t going to be easy or fun to watch for Raider fans.Marshall has to be got to be excited to see Vontaze Burfict in his new team’s colors. A notoriously dirty player and repeat offender, Burfict’s rap sheet was visually broken down in this article by the USA Today subsidiary website FTW.That’s not even including the $200,000+ he’s paid out in play-specific fines for the various infractions detailed in the article above.Wait! The Raiders traded for Antonio Brown and all they had to give up was a 3rd and 5th round pick in the 2019 draft! There’s a couple reasons the Steelers let Brown go so easily and one of them is the fact that the Raiders were essentially the only team that could absorb Brown’s contract demands. The other reason is the pain in the butt Brown had become to teammates and coaches, especially in the face of adversity. If the season starts out poorly for the Raiders, David Carr doesn’t get Brown his touches, or if Gruden decides that coaching is again too difficult and decides to pull up stakes on 2019, Brown is going to publicly lose his mind. Speaking of losing his mind, I have to mention the Raiders latest signing that, I’m sure, excites Marshall the most. According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle article, here:This Raiders signing has to make Marshall almost as comfortable as Richie Incognito made those funeral home workers when he demanded, under the threat of violence, his deceased father’s severed head.Like the rest of us, I’m sure Brandon sees this as totally normal and as a signal that Mayock and Gruden have the team’s best interests at heart by bringing a psychologically disturbed and violent lunatic into the locker room. Remember, this isn’t where the crazy ends with Incognito. There’s so much that this is the highlight. It could be and has been it’s own article multiple times is recent years. On what level was signing this guy ever thought to be a good idea? Brandon, I ask you, what could possibly go wrong? There are plenty of other acquisitions that surely make Marshall nervous, but these are the big ones. As Brandon makes his way through his day and he catches his thoughts drifting to the Monday Night Football opener at Mile High, as Broncos fans, we can’t fault him. If the Raiders don’t win and begin to slide, they’ll have a first time general manager trying to motivate a coach looking for any reason to cash in his chips in week 2 Menelik Watson Jersey , with their star wide receiver throwing everyone under the bus, especially the linebacker who managed to already get himself suspended and fined into oblivion, only to have Incognito mumbling to himself with nobody wanting to find out what’s wrong lest it’s their head he demands “for research”.Frankly, it’s all downhill for Brandon after the Broncos game. When reality is this bleak, why not let him daydream? Potential Chris Harris Jr. trade partners for the BroncosHart and I spoke with Adam and Ian regarding the Chris Harris Jr. situation as it broke. After John Elway told the media he wouldn’t be working on a deal for Chris Harris Jr. until after the draft this weekend, Harris gave Elway and the Broncos an ultimatum. While the fan in me hopes terms can be reached between the two, the fanalyst thinks that is highly unlikely. Christopher Hart and I joined Adam Malnati and Ian St. Clair on the MHR Radio Podcast (iTunes, Spotify Todd Davis Jersey , and Stitcher) to digest the Harris news and try to unearth what it all means. So where could the Broncos trade Harris? Ideally it isn’t an AFC team. Given Strap is over 30, it will probably have to be a team that is looking to contend in 2019, or a GM who is hoping to stay off the firing line. My short list:The Arizona CardinalsThe Cardinals currently have Patrick Peterson locking down one spot in their secondary (for how long is anyone’s guess) but just went out to grab Robert Alford this offseason. That’s not great. Then when you stop to consider that Vance Joseph runs the kind of man-heavy scheme that would make the most of Harris’ skillset and has familiarity with him, it makes a lot of sense. What complicates things is the rest of the roster. Unless Kyler Murray proves he’s a phenom like Robert Griffin III or Andrew Luck were in their first years at the helm, they’re not close to contending. On the surface it doesn’t seem like General Manager Steve Keim would be interested in trading for an older corner. At least until you consider the fact that Arizona has signed Terrell Suggs (37 in October), Alford (31 in November), and traded for Marcus Gilbert (31) in 2019. Peterson is no spring chicken, and Larry Fitzgerald has one foot in retirement. Combine that with Steve Keim’s shaky job security, and a trade starts to make sense. The Tampa Bay BuccaneersThere’s some serious cap math that would need to smooth out before this deal could come together. Since signing Donovan Smith to a hefty extension, the Bucs are sitting at less than $2 million under the cap right now. One way things could sort themselves out in a hurry is if Jason Licht moves on from defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, which would free $13 million in space. If that were to happen, a Harris would give Bruce Arians and Todd Bowles a lockdown corner for the new defense sorely in need of one. Harris’ age wouldn’t be as big a problem on a team that is hoping to contend right now, future be damned. The Chicago BearsAnother contender that wants to win now and lacks the draft capital to drastically improve the roster is the Chicago Bears. With Fangio coming to Denver, Matt Nagy brought in Chuck Pagano to run the defense. That change will bring more man-to-man responsibilities and blitzing. For Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara it won’t be a drastic change as a lot of the coverage shells Fangio uses essentially places the boundary corners in man, but it will be a shift for the new nickel corner trying to replace Bryce Callahan. If Elway and the Broncos are willing to take a 2020 pick they could find a willing trade partner. The Detroit LionsAs I’ve mentioned before, Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia are facing a really hot seat. If the Lions disappoint out the gate it wouldn’t surprise me to see both on the firing line before 2019 ends. Harris could push Jalen Tabor out of the starting lineup and become a standout running mate to Darius Slay. One thing that could cool this possibility is Detroit’s new corner Justin Coleman. He’s locked in as the nickel and has a bit of an overlapping skillset with Strap. The Green Bay PackersThis is another team that could surprise you. Throughout the Ted Thompson era Titletown was more conservative than your great uncle Leonard. Then you look at their recent splash in free agency under General Manager Brian Gutekunst. It makes sense: they have a Super Bowl window that slams shut when Aaron Rodgers (35) hangs’em up. New coach Matt LaFleur kept former defensive boss Mike Pettine, who runs the kind of scheme that could maximize Harris’ talents. Green Bay seemingly has all the corners it could need with their recent draft investment in Joe Jackson, Jaire Alexander, and Kevin King. But Jackson was just “OK” last year, and Harris is a Pro Bowl talent.

JuJu Smith-Schuster is dominating from the slot in 2018 The Pittsburgh Steelers sure do know how to pick wide receivers. And when they selected JuJu Smith-Schuster out of USC in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft it may have caused some eyebrows to raise Vance McDonald Jersey , but the pick sure has panned out. After accumulating nearly 1,000 yards as a rookie, Smith-Schuster has come into his own in his sophomore season. Most fans assumed after the departure of Martavis Bryant, it would be Smith-Schuster who would take over the duties on the outside opposite Antonio Brown.Try again. Smith-Schuster has remained in the slot, where he prefers the physicality of play, and he has continued to thrive in this spot.Check out the numbers for slot receiving production, from ESPN’s NFL Matchup Twitter account:For Smith-Schuster, his style of play is a perfect blend of old school physicality, combined with modern day creativity. However, what has become the best part of his game is the rapport he has developed with Ben Roethlisberger. When Roethlisberger escapes the pocket, his eyes usually fixate on No. 84, Antonio Brown, but this year there has been another threat who has been able to seemingly read Roethlisberger’s mind — JuJu Smith-Schuster. Fans have already seen this on multiple occasions this season. The key first down completion on second down vs. the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football saw Roethlisberger step up in the pocket, and move to his right. It was Smith-Schuster who peeled off his route and sat in a zone for Roethlisberger to throw across his body and make the play. This is just one example of what Smith-Schuster brings to the table Tyson Alualu Jersey , and most of the time it comes from the slot position in the offense. If Smith-Schuster can keep up this production, Pittsburgh’s offense will remain one of the more difficult to defend in the NFL. DENVER (AP) — The National Football League’s annual free agency frenzy officially begins Wednesday, just 39 days after Tom Brady won another Super Bowl and 44 days before Commissioner Roger Goodell takes the stage in Nashville to announce the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft.Le’Veon Bell, Nick Foles, C.J. Mosley and Landon Collins are among this year’s headliners cashing in during the 27th year of unfettered free agency, a system that emerged after a Minneapolis federal court ruled in 1992 that the Plan B free agency system of protecting 37 players on a team violated antitrust laws.A lawyer for the league, Frank Rothman, warned in closing arguments that a verdict for the players could mean “the destruction of the National Football League that we know today.”Modern free agency indeed laid waste to the old way of doing business.Yet, what rose in its place has been a godsend to the NFL, which is celebrating its 100th season this year. The NFL wouldn’t be the gigantic force it is in society and sports today without free agency empowering players with freedom and endowing long-suffering franchises and their fans with hope.“I think free agency’s been great for the game for a lot of reasons,” said Joe Horrigan, executive director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “Look at us, we have a whole season now for the fan. It’s keeping the NFL front of mind 24/7, seven days a week Justin Hunter Jersey , 365 days a year.”Without free agency, the Green Bay Packers wouldn’t have returned to glory in the 1990s; the second chapter of Peyton Manning’s magnificent career might have gone unwritten; the New Orleans Saints wouldn’t have been able to parade the Lombardi Trophy down Bourbon Street; and Deion Sanders might not have earned two nicknames and two Super Bowl rings, one in San Francisco and another in Dallas.Federal judge David Doty threatened to implement his own plan if team owners and the players’ union couldn’t agree on a free agency system following the league’s loss in court in 1992.What finally won over the hardliner owners was the inclusion of a franchise tag and the coupling of a salary cap to control costs. The first salary cap was $34.6 million in 1994. Now, it’s $188.2 million. The most significant free agent signing in NFL history occurred when the new system went into effect in the 1993 offseason: Reggie White chose Green Bay in a shocker that shifted the balance of power in the NFL and foretold free agency’s boom and boon.“What was beautiful about that was everybody was fearful of free agency, fearful that all the best teams would stockpile all the greatest players and they’d all go to one place,” Horrigan said. “Well, the salary cap that came with free agency prevented that, No. 1. But then Reggie to Green Bay kind of suggested that the system was good for all.”White teamed with Brett Favre to lead the Packers’ resurgence that ended a 30-year title drought.Manning’s arrival in Denver two decades later also transformed a franchise that was far removed from its glory days. After missing the 2011 season with a neck injury, Manning was cut loose by the Colts, who were turning to Andrew Luck. The Broncos won the Manning sweepstakes, which made it easier for general manager John Elway to lure other free agents such as DeMarcus Ware, Emmanuel Sanders, Aqib Talib and T.J. Ward, the emotional backbone of the team that won Super Bowl 50 in Manning’s farewell.Somebody asked Elway at the introductory news conference what he would have done had Manning turned him down.“Plan B?” replied Elway. “We don’t have a Plan B. We’re going with Plan A.”Sort of like the NFL had to do when the players decertified their union three decades ago and took the league to court in the face of long-standing fierce opposition to free agency.“The pushback was huge Jon Bostic Jersey , going back to 1969 and ’70 with owners and labor-player management,” former commissioner Paul Tagliabue said. The issue led to the 1987 players strike and owners’ infamous use of replacement players.“Dan Rooney (the late chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers) talked about some form of free agency then, but the majority of the owners’ committee would have no part of free agency,” Tagliabue said. “Then we came up with Plan B.”Owners unilaterally imposed Plan B free agency in 1989 with the absence of a labor agreement, giving teams the right to protect 37 players on their 47-man rosters from becoming free agents.“They weren’t trying to satisfy the players association, they were trying to satisfy the courts,” Horrigan said. “They thought they could get limited free agency and (union chief) Gene Upshaw kind of chuckled at how transparent that was: ‘That’s not free .’“And the judge also saw through it,” Horrigan said. While some players switched teams, all the really good players were still stuck.“We knew then it did not make any sense,” players agent Donald Yee said. “But to be fair, the owners were simply grasping at anything to present to the courts that seemed reasonable. I represented a reserve player who had never played, and all of a sudden, he was exposed in Plan B and he had numerous offers from other teams. His own veteran teammates were jealous and upset. It was a laughable situation.”The NFL’s current system isn’t flawless. The franchise tag irks the game’s superstars, and a recent AP study found that teams often turn to younger Ryan Switzer Jersey , cheaper players rather than put savings from the rookie salary pools into signing proven veterans.“When the CBA came into effect in 1993, there was more of a middle class within the roster, and it was difficult for any young player to play, or much less make the active roster,” Yee said. “On the vast majority of rosters now, there is no middle class, and this certainly affects the product quality on the field. If a highly paid star is sidelined, often an inexperienced younger player has to step in.”Both sides will try to tweak free agency again in the next round of labor negotiations.“Ultimately, fan response carries the day,” Yee said. “If the fans don’t like the product and reject it, that will affect owners and the union, and they’ll have to work together to come up with a fix. Every ‘fix’ is a balance of competing interests, and there will be merit to a number of potential innovations.”

(AP) — Cam Newton torched the league’s No. 1-ranked defense, completing 21 of 29 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns and running for 52 yards and another score.Christian McCaffrey had two touchdowns and electrifying rookie wide receiver D.J. Moore turned in his best game as a pro with 129 yards from scrimmage as the Panthers won their ninth straight game at home.Trailing 7-0 early, the Panthers (5-2) scored on four straight possessions in the final 16 minutes of the first half to break open the game and take a 24-7 halftime lead.Newton threw an 11-yard TD pass to Greg Olsen , McCaffrey ran for an 11-yard score and caught a 6-yard TD pass that ricocheted off the hands of safety Eric Weddle and into his arms in the end zone. After the Ravens (4-4) climbed within 13 on Joe Flacco’s TD pass to Javorius Allen, Newton calmly drove the Panthers 85 yards in nine plays and scored from 12 yards on a naked bootleg to put the game away early in the fourth quarter. The Panthers rolled up 386 yards against a Ravens defense that had come in allowing a league-low 280.6 yards and 14.4 points per game.STEELERS 33, BROWNS 18PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes to Antonio Brown, James Conner scored twice to bring some solace to a city grieving from tragedy. The Steelers (4-2-1) overcame a slow start and their own mistakes to win their 15th straight at Heinz Field over the Browns (2-5-1) HaHa Clinton-Dix Jersey , who have lost 25 consecutive road games — one shy of the NFL record. The win brought temporary comfort to Pittsburgh’s fans a day after a gunman stormed into the Tree of Life Synagogue and killed 11 people. A moment of silence was observed before the game and several signs with the Steelers’ helmet logo — inlaid with a Star of David — were displayed by fans.Roethlisberger connected on TD passes of 43 and 1 yard with Brown, and Conner continued to minimize Le’Veon Bell’s absence. Conner rushed for 146 yards, and scored on a 12-yard run in the third quarter that put the Steelers ahead 23-12.Conner’s 22-yard TD with 2:04 left made it 33-12.Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield threw a pair of TD passes, but the Browns squandered some early scoring chances and remain winless in Pittsburgh since 2003.CHIEFS 30, BRONCOS 23KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns, Sammy Watkins had 107 yards receiving and two of the scores.Travis Kelce and Kareem Hunt added touchdown catches for the Chiefs (7-1), who have won 19 of their past 21 games against division rivals. That includes all three games this season.Case Keenum had 262 yards passing and two scores for the Broncos (3-5), while Phillip Lindsay had a big day in his first career start. The undrafted rookie had 95 yards rushing and a score while catching three passes and providing a spark out of the backfield.Still, that production couldn’t help the Broncos overcome their own sloppiness. They were flagged 10 times for 83 yards, several of the penalties wiping out big gains — and that doesn’t include a few that were declined or offsetting, including a personal foul on defensive tackle Derek Wolfe.Denver has lost seven straight to its biggest rival.REDSKINS 20, GIANTS 13EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Safety D.J. Swearinger intercepted two passes, Matt Ioannidis had 2½ sacks, and the NFC East-leading Redskins rode their defense to a third straight win.Adrian Peterson caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith and ran for a season-high 149 yards, with the last64 coming on a touchdown jaunt with 3:06 to play, as the Redskins (5-2) matched their best start since 2008.Dustin Hopkins added field goals of 53 and 39 yards for the Redskins, who will finish the week with a 1½-game lead in the division. The three-game winning streak is their longest in two seasons. The Redskins sacked a battered Eli Manning seven times, forced the two turnovers and made big play after big play in sending New York (1-7) to its fifth straight loss.Aldrick Rosas kicked field goals of 37 and 21 yards for the Giants. Manning,30 of 47 for 316 yards, hit Evan Engram on a 2-yard touchdown pass with :17 to play.BENGALS 37, BUCCANEERS 34CINCINNATI (AP) — Jessie Bates returned Jameis Winston’s fourth interception for a touchdown Chase Roullier Jersey , and Randy Bullock kicked a 44-yard field goal on the final play.Winston was benched after matching his career high with four interceptions. Ryan Fitzpatrick rallied the Buccaneers (3-4) to a 34-34 tie with a pair of touchdown passes, including his 18-yard toss with 1:05 left. The Bengals (5-3) recovered from their second-worst drubbing under Marvin Lewis and pulled it out with only their scoring drive in the second half. Andy Dalton had completions of 23 and 9 yards to A.J. Green that got them in field-goal range.Tampa Bay has allowed at least 30 points in five games and changed defensive coordinators two weeks ago. This time, Winston was the Bucs‘ biggest problem. He threw four interceptions for the third time in his career, including one directly to Bates that the safety returned for Cincinnati’s fourth defensive touchdown of the season. Winston went to the bench, and Ryan Fitzpatrick pulled Tampa Bay even.Fitzpatrick threw a 72-yard touchdown to Mike Evans, his fifth TD pass of at least 50 yards this season — most in the NFL. He also led an 88-yard drive to the tying score, hitting O.J. Howard for an 18-yard touchdown and completing another pass for the conversion. Now, the Bucs have to decide which one will lead the NFL’s top-ranked offense in yardage.SEAHAWKS 28, LIONS 14DETROIT (AP) — Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to put the Seahawks ahead. The Seahawks (4-3) looked sharp on both sides of the ball coming off their bye and won for the fourth time in five games after opening the season with two losses.Wilson completed 10 passes, two for scores, before having an incompletion late in the second quarter. He finished 14 of 17 for 248 yards, leading to a perfect quarterback rating. Wilson’s 24-yard pass to Tyler Lockett , 15-yard throw to David Moore and 12-yard pass to Ed Dickson for touchdowns gave Seattle a 21-7 lead at halftime.Chris Carson, who had 105 yards rushing, scored on a 7-yard run early in the fourth to put the Seahawks up 28-7.Detroit acquired run-stuffing defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison from the New York Giants for a fifth-round pick just four days before the game, but he wasn’t able to immediately help one of the NFL’s worst run defenses. The Lions (3-4) had won three of four.BEARS 24, JETS 10CHICAGO (AP) — Mitchell Trubisky threw for two touchdowns for the short-handed Bears. The Bears (4-3) got the win after dropping two in a row to fall out of the NFC North lead, even though star pass rusher Khalil Mack (right ankle) and No. 1 receiver Allen Robinson (groin) missed the game. With Sam Darnold struggling against Chicago’s defense, the Jets (3-5) managed just 207 yards and lost their second straight game.Trubisky was shaky but did enough to help the Bears come out on top. He connected with Tarik Cohen for a 70-yard touchdown on a screen pass in the first quarter and threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Anthony Miller in the third, making it 14-3. But the second-year pro was wild again after struggling with his control against New England the previous week.Trubisky was 16 of 29 for 220 yards. He also ran for 51 yards on six attempts.Cohen’s lone reception was the big touchdown. He also ran for 40 yards on five carries.

Begins Moves to Avoid Another Labor War - The New York TimesGetting a new collective bargaining agreement with the Players Association will help the case for lucrative new media contracts. ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Derek Carr’s No. 1 receiver has been traded just weeks after the Oakland Raiders dealt away another cornerstone player in Khalil Mack. Carr has just one win, has struggled to adjust to coach Jon Gruden’s offense and has taken more of a physical beating than he has at any time during his five-year career. As if that wasn’t enough, he also has had to deal with reports that unidentified teammates have lost faith in him and his toughness has been questioned.“I don’t pay that any mind,” Carr said Wednesday. “Just go talk to those guys. If they don’t want to put their name on it, I am going to leave it as what it is. It’s nothing to me. If they want to come say it to my locker, I’ve had plenty of tough discussions standing right here with teammates. Those are some of the guys that texted me yesterday, saying, ‘Don’t worry about this bull.’ That kind of stuff. I can’t tell you how many texts I got from former teammates Connor Cook Jersey , teammates I have now and all of these things that when you’re losing, (bad stuff) happens.”Tight end Lee Smith gave a long statement defending Carr in what was otherwise a mostly empty locker room during the open media period. He called a recent report that the locker room is fractured over Carr “comical and laughable” and said Carr remains the leader of this team.Smith said it’s a “joke” that Carr has to deal with this criticism, including that it looked like he was crying after injuring his left arm in a loss to Seattle in London on Oct. 14.“He’s a human being,” Smith said. “We’re human beings. We’re not robots. He has a 1-5 record as a starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders. That’s hard enough on him. Much less him worrying about his two sons happening to see an article that he’s not tough. It’s ridiculous. Of course it would bother him. He’s human.”Carr’s play has also not lived up to expectations as he has been hurt by a banged-up offensive line that got him sacked six times in the loss to the Seahawks.Carr has thrown more interceptions (eight) than touchdown passes (seven) so far this season and was unable to get the ball downfield at all in the game against the Seahawks when he threw just one pass more than 10 yards downfield and gained 140 of his 142 yards after the catch.“I think Carr is going to be fine,” Gruden said. “We have a lot of moving pieces now on offense. It’s tough on a quarterback. In the first year of a system it’s doubly tough. I’m going to keep supporting him. I know I believe in him. I know he’s going to be a great player. You watch and see, he’ll play just fine on Sunday.”A season that began with optimism with the return of Gruden as coach has gone off the rails quickly. The team traded Mack to Chicago just over a week before the start of the season for a package of draft picks and then dealt Cooper to Dallas on Monday for another first-round pick. The trades give the Raiders three first-round picks in 2019 and two more the following year but none of that will help win games now for the players still here. The Raiders (1-5) have been outscored 53-13 in losing their past two games and have been accused of tanking the season because they traded Cooper and Mack.“I feel like we’ve had to do this a couple of times in my early five years,” Carr said. “That part is hard. At the same time, it doesn’t change my mindset, you guys know that. Good things, bad things AJ McCarron Jersey , it doesn’t change who I am and how I work. I still have a job to do. It’s going to be harder without Coop, it’s going to be harder without Khalil, we knew that. It’s not going to make it easier, especially for us, for a quarterback and things like that. But that’s no excuse. We need to go perform and we need to go win games and that’s my mindset.”NOTES: LG Kelechi Osemele has not returned to practice from a knee injury that has sidelined him the past two weeks and his status for this week remains in doubt. … S Karl Joseph (hamstring), OL Jon Feliciano (ribs) and DL Frostee Rucker (neck) were all back on the practice field.

on the road against the New York Jets (1-3) Domata Peko Jersey , but their history on the east coast is one that should give us pause. Nothing ever comes easily in the NFL.Collectively, the Mile High Report staff thinks the Broncos win easily 26-16 over the Jets. Against a rookie quarterback like Sam Darnold, who has struggled, a veteran defense like Denver’s should be able to control the game defensively. So if they do that, then the Broncos would only need an efficient offensive performance to win this game by two plus scores. Here is how we each broke this game down individually.Broncos 27, Jets 13It feels like the issues on offense might be here to stay with the Broncos in 2018, but against a team like the Jets there is no reason two scores don’t win this game for Denver. It is a road game on the east coast, however, so I won’t take anything for granted in this one. - Tim LynchBroncos 27, Jets 20I think Royce Freeman & Philip Lindsay notch a rushing TD each, and Keenum finally gets back on the TD board with an endzone target to Courtland Sutton. Sanders will less in receptions & targets. However, I think Keenum also throws another pick.Meanwhile, the defense will face a group with little in the way of playmakers. The iffy secondary will still give up some big plays it shouldn’t, but I think this is the game the Broncos’ pass rush gets back on course. - Taylor KotheBroncos 24, Jets 21A tough game on the road, this is the win that gets the Broncos back on track for a play-contending season. Von Miller will show up and give the Jets’ rookie QB a nice “Welcome to the NFL” sack while Chris Harris Jr. will send him a pick-six welcome package. I expect Case Keenum to have an improved game, taking advantage of a weak Jets’ secondary and a prime Courtland Sutton. Life is back to good on Monday. - Laurie Lattimore-VolkmannBroncos 23, Jets 6This game is a hard one to predict. One one hand you have the Broncos playing an early game on the east coast on the road. On the other hand, Sam Darnold kinda sucks. Then again, we only scored 23 on a piss poor Chiefs defense AT HOME, and the Jets are at least “middle of the road” on defense (exactly middle as they rank 16th). So, how can I predict we score even the measly 23 we did against the Chiefs? Plus the finger pointing has begun with the “offense needs to score more points” talk. Ugh. What to do, what to do? How about we slap around a rookie QB the way everyone else slaps around rookie QBs? How about we don’t be the “typical Broncos” and be the poster children of career games for other teams and players? How about we try that on for size guys! - Pete BaronBroncos 29 Ronald Leary Jersey , Jets 13The Broncos are more talented than the Jets. The Broncos are a better team than the Jets. The Broncos are going to beat the Jets. It’s not hard. Run the ball. Let the rookies take over and they should have no problem. 29-13 Broncos. - Adam MalnatiJets 23, Broncos 20There is no doubt the Broncos should win this game. They should win this game rather easily. How many times have we said that the last two years, only to feel either anger or disappointment at the result? In Denver’s last six games played on the East Coast, it is 1-5. Overall, in the last nine road games, the Broncos are 1-8 and 4-13 in the last 17. It’s OK, I’ll be that one fan. - Ian St. ClairBroncos 31, Jets 9Last time the Broncos played the Jets, they shut them out, and that was with Trevor Siemian at the helm, and are facing a talented but turnover prone young QB in Sam Darnold. I expect this one to be as easy of a win Denver will have on their schedule this year, and will help fans get last week’s taste out of their mouths. Broncos 31 (with a defensive TD), Jets 9. - Jeff EssaryGive us your score predictions in the comments section below.PFF’s Mike Renner says the Broncos defensive line is starting to get back to Super Bowl levels Pro Football Focus’s Mike Renner joined Orange and Blue 760 today and touched on multiple topics. One topic he touched on was the Broncos defensive line is getting back to “Super Bowl levels” again which is obviously great news. This unit may not be as good as the Broncos 2015 defensive line/front seven, but they’re certainly close. Obviously, linebacker/pass rusher/game wrecker Von Miller is the focal point, but players like Shelby Harris and rookie Bradley Chubb were consistent terrors as well. Harris earned the highest grade of any Broncos defender per Renner while Chubb had himself a great even though it really doesn’t show up in the stat line. In Pro Football Focus’s refocused piece, they talk about how Miller didn’t even play his best game and that Chubb held his own against a good veteran offensive tackle. This unit only should get better. Miller had three sacks but didn’t play his best game apparently, Bradley Chubb was playing in his first game, and they had former second-round pick DeMarcus Walker inactive. He has shown he can provide solid interior pressure and should factor into things at some point this season. Like Renner says, this unit is once again nearing Super Bowl levels. If Case Keenum can cut down on his turnovers which his career track record says he will and the Broncos run game continues to be good, this team will be back in the playoffs in 2018. It should be a fun season and a nice whooping of Jon Gruden and the Raiders this weekend should only raise my/our confidence even more.

more fuel on the Steelers fire once again on Friday"If the offield drama that surrounds the Pittsburgh Steelers is to ever end Ramon Foster Jersey , it will require the national media finding another topic to fill the offseason. But if fans are to be able to disconnect themselves from some of the pointless narratives that appear to be following their team as of late, it will probably require them turning off the NFL Network.Among the national broadcasters, it is somewhat of a surprise to note that no outlet seems to be enjoying fanning the flames of dissent in Pittsburgh more than the network owned and run by the NFL. The apparent dysfunction in the Steel City has been discussed ad nauseam on the NFL Network’s many shows from dawn till dusk, with opinion coming from everyone and anyone the broadcaster can get their hands on. On Friday, it was the turn of former Steelers linebackers coach Joey Porter to have his five minutes of airtime on the state of the locker room in Pittsburgh, a rare guest on the show and someone who at least actually had a connection to the team. Responding to questions about Ben Roethlisberger’s leadership and the issues between him and Antonio Brown, Porter left no doubt who he felt was at fault Vince Williams Jersey , suggesting that Big Ben had taken far too long to apologize to his former teammate.Critical of how Roethlisberger uses his power within the organization, Porter portrayed the quarterback as player who is not as beloved in the locker room as he once was when he was a leader of the team.Without any examples from Porter about Roethlisberger using his power only for himself, it is frankly impossible to have any idea what the former linebackers coach is alluding to with his remarks. Some observers might even suggest that the position Big Ben holds in the organization is no different to any other franchise quarterback around the league. Claims that Roethlisberger took too long to apologize to Brown seem a little harsh given that Porter appears to consider anything longer than 24 hours too long. He also seems to completely discount Big Ben's assertion that he attempted to communicate with AB on multiple occasions late last year when he became aware of a problem. It will be up to the individual to decide if Porter’s words are in anyway motivated by not having his contract renewed by the Steelers, but it has to be wondered how well other teams around the league will view his remarks when considering him for a coaching hire in the future. One day this story will end, but not until the NFL Network has milked it for all it is worth. BTSC anticipates big storylines and issues bold statements regarding each one of them. Let’s take a look and deem them as fact or fiction.Despite talent at the RB position Terry Bradshaw Jersey , the Steelers are likely to run the wheels off of James ConnerFictionMike Tomlin teams haven’t always been great at limiting carries and reducing the load for their RB1. We’ve seen it before with Fast Willie Parker going out with a broken leg late in 2007, LeGarrette Blount leaving due to lack of carries and Le’Veon Bell and Deangelo Williams being spelled sparingly and suffering injuries. However, the paradigm is shifting and it seems more likely that preserving James Conner has become a priority. Don’t expect a full-blow running back by committee situation, but expect more opportunities for Jaylen Samuels and Bennie Snell Jr. to get involved more.Antonio Brown will do his best not to blast the Steelers on HBO’s Hard Knocks.Fact...But keep readingI have a feeling that the Raiders will mandate that AB refrain from badmouthing his former team on the cable series and I wouldn’t be surprised if No. 84 tries to do his best not too. However, HBO needs drama and Brown won’t be able to stay mum. Antonio’s best won’t be good enough as he fills his segment of the show with innuendo and stories of suffering oppression from Steelers management and his former quarterback.Donte Moncrief becomes the clear-cut WR2 by camp’s end.FactThere is a ton of talent in the Steelers’ stable of wide receivers and Moncrief hasn’t quite achieved stats expected of a number-one selection. However, the former Colt and Jaguar hasn’t always been in great receiving-opportunity climates. With the exception of a not-always healthy Andrew Luck, Moncrief has had an aged Matt Hasselbeck Joe Gilliam Jersey , Jacoby Brissett, Scott Tolsien, Josh Freeman, Cody Kessler and Blake Bortles throwing to him as a WR2. Moncrief walks into a perfect situation in Pittsburgh with a future Hall of Famer throwing him the ball. I expect the rapport to develop quickly with Ben Roethlisberger and for Moncrief to make the most of his opportunity opposite JuJu.Vance McDonald will break Heath Miller’s team single-season mark of eight receiving touchdowns for a tight end.FictionVance has never had more than four touchdowns in a single season, but he’s poised for a big season and has developed quite a rapport with Ben Roethlisberger. If healthy, he can possibly be the second-most targeted receiver next to JuJu Smith-Schuster. No. 89 has the ability to eclipse Heath and will come real close, but I don’t think he’ll adVance past Miller Time.2019 will be Bud Dupree’s swan-song season as a Steeler.(Tossup...But I’ll lean towards) FictionI think to the chagrin of many (not me) Diontae Johnson Pittsburgh Steelers Jersey , Bud Dupree will get a new contract opportunity with the Steelers. I think working more closely with Keith Butler will lead to his best season in the Burgh and the lack of depth will make it hard to cut ties, despite what might be a hefty price tag.Am I right on? Or are my opinions just pure poppycock? The comment section is yours to have your voice heard.

Despite playing at a “small school” Howard faced some top notch competition, including playing Auburn, where he was able to hold his own and catch the eye of NFL scouts. His biggest apparent weakness is his hand usage, which, under the tutelage of an offensive line guru, presumably could be addressed without much issue. In some respects, the assessments of Howard read very similar to those of Geron Christian, last year’s third round pick. Howard is athletic, but lacks the strength to currently start at the pro level. Despite that caveat, with a year or two of conditioning, it appears he can be an NFL starter. To that point, word is Howard has 24 team visits in the lead up to the draft, which is pretty crazy.StrengthsHas good lateral mobility and patienceGood foot speed and bendHas good athletic abilityGood postureGreat wingspanPlays with good effortWeaknessesNeeds to get stronger, absorbs too much contactSoft punch, and can get walked backHas to refine techniquePlayed RT exclusively in collegeLet’s see his workHow He Would Fit On The RedskinsYou can never have too many talented offensive linemen. Howard, despite being from a small, FCS school is highly regarded. He would be another project for Bill Callahan, as he still needs some finishing work, but if Christian flops, he could potentially be groomed to replace the Silverback. He’s demonstrated athleticism, though he clearly needs to work on his hand placement and strength. Of course, if he didn’t have those weaknesses, he’d likely be a first or second rounder.Given his late day 2/early day 3 draft grade, the Redskins may simply have too many other needs, and he may be too hot a commodity to fall to us. But Sonny Jurgensen Jersey , if he happens to slip through as the draft drags on during day 3, he may be too talented to pass up. The Washington Redskins draft class is in the books!"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Looks Like Someone Has A Sixpack Of The MondaysDaily SlopRedskins RecapsEDTShareTweetShareShareThe Redskins 2019 draft class is complete!Kirby Lee-USA TODAY SportsThe 2019 NFL Draft is officially over and the Redskins had the final pick to close out this year. The Redskins ended up with a total of 10 picks, and made two trades during the draft. The Redskins picked players on both sides of the ball, but focused more on offense this year. They double dipped at wide receiver, guard, and outside linebacker. The Redskins got their franchise QB when they selected Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins in the first round. Then they got their Preston Smith replacement when they trade back up into the 1st round to pick Mississippi State OLB Montez Sweat. Day 2 saw them grant Haskins request to get one of his Buckeye receivers when Washington added Terry McLaurin in the 3rd round. They made their second trade and turned a 3rd round pick into 2 4ths.Day 3 saw them add 7 new players. They made a stash pick when they selected Stanford RB Bryce Love who tore his ACL in December. Then they went back-to-back on offensive linemen, adding Indiana guard Wes Martin and Alabama C/G Ross Pierschbacher. Round 5 also added North Carolina ILB Cole Holcomb who is a tackling machine. Round 6 started giving the Redskins value picks. They added another wide receiver with N.C. State’s Kelvin Harmon who is friends with Dwayne Haskins and fell from his Day 2 projection. Then they finally addressed the secondary and added James Madison CB Jimmy Moreland.
